After receiving a leer from Neville Chamberlain, telling the children they were to be evacuated as their part of the ‘war effort’, they left their classrooms behind. With gas masks and identity tags hanging off their coats, the evacuees experienced the same journey 800,000 children made in the early weeks of the war. After boarding the train to the countryside, they found themselves on Epsom Downs, hearing stories of children being ‘billeted’ to new homes. Our evacuees looked fantastic in their costumes, behaving impeccably through- out the day. Thanks to the parent helpers who came dressed in role, making the day one to remember! SH Art Competition to Win House Points We are running a competition for the children to create a piece of art work to represent our new houses whose emblems are : Dragons for Red House, Pegasus for White House, Phoenix for Blue House and Griffin for Yellow House. Artwork can be in the form of a pencil drawing a painting a collage photos sculpture model or any other creative idea! We may well use ideas from the entries to inspire designs/pictures to represent each house. There will be house points up for grabs for entries so why not give it go and earn points for your house at the same time. Deadline for entries Monday 21st October 2013 (see last week’s TT for more info).
