Expectations
As parents we would like you to…
Ensure your child arrives on time to school.
Make sure your child eats a healthy breakfast to prepare them for the day ahead.
Take an interest in what your child is learning.
Read with your child everyday!
Sit down with your child and ensure they learn their spellings.
Support our teachers in Year 2.
As teachers we strive to…..
Give your child the best education possible.
Support your child to become a well rounded resilient and independent person.
Communicate honestly with you discussing your child's successes and areas for developments.
Have an open door policy and whilst arrival and dismissal times can be very busy, you are always welcome to make an appointment with myself or the class teacher.
Keep you up to date with what is happening in the school.
Important Information School equipment
Please ensure children have the correct uniform and carry a book bag to school on a daily basis.
PE kit is also a mandatory part of the school uniform. Please ensure children have this in school.
If you would like to ask any questions about uniform or school shop opening hours please speak to Ms Keene in the office.
SATs
• The tests will take place in May for all Year 2 pupils in England (there are no fixed dates).
• They cover three curriculum areas: math's, reading , writing, SPaG and spelling.
• The tests will be sat in your child's usual classroom, with their usual teacher, in a small group or sometimes as a whole class.
• Each test lasts around 30 minutes, although they won't be strictly timed.
• There will be a meeting closer to the time giving you more information and advice.
Homework
• Project letters
• Reading
• Spelling
Project Letters
Reading • Children have been given brand new reading records. If they get lost children will be charged for a new
one. Books will be changed 2/3 times a week.
• Please make sure to listen to your child read and sign the reading diary.
Spelling • Spellings will be given out every Friday and children will be tested the following Friday.
• Please keep the look, cover, write, say sheet and complete on a daily basis (returning
it after the test). This is the best way to help children learn their spellings.
Curriculum Overview
Our English curriculum this year is going to be overseen by advisors from the borough, as
we are taking part in ‘The Book Club’. At the moment our key text is the Hot Hippo and in
Autumn 2 we will be moving on to the book Henry Finch.
Through each text we will…
• Teach children prior knowledge in order for them to fully understand the text.
• Make predictions and read the text in detail.
• Explore and examine the text focusing on character, setting, problem and solution.
• Conclude each section with a ‘big write’ which the children will sometimes publish.
Behaviour
Bronze, silver and gold cards are used to reward good behaviour.
Yellow cards and red cards are a consequence.
A yellow card results in 5 or 10 minutes of time out at playtime.
A red card results in parents being spoken to in addition to further
and lost time at play.
