9 May 2014 Summer Term: No 3 Tel 01737 354541 email: [email protected]Website: www.tadworthps.surrey.sch.uk Year 2 End Football Season in Style Last week saw a number of our children (from Years 2—6) taking part in a series of football tournaments hosted by Banstead Junior School and refereed by pupils from The Beacon. All of the children who took part played fairly and gave their all, with some great skills on show. The tournaments included up to nine local schools, all of whom are part of the North Downs Schools’ Partnership. Thank you to all of the parents who supported the children in geing to and from the event and for cheering them on. Well done to all of the children who took part. A special congratulations to our Year 2 team who finished their tournament as the winners, under the expert coaching skills of Mr Reid and Mr Davies - and Miss Clifton’s enthusiastic cheering.! JK Baby Chicks Hatch at Tadworth At the beginning of last week 10 eggs arrived and were delivered to the Reception classes to wait for the chicks to hatch. The children were all very excited and the eggs were numbered for the children to predict which would hatch first. They watched the eagerly anticipated event using Ladybirds’ class visualiser as No 3 egg was seen to be rocking backwards and forwards the most. The chicks were all given names, including ‘Pixie’, ‘Isla-Rose’, ‘Sunny’, and ‘Mr Pac-Man’! Barnaby said “I thought Mr Pac Man would hatch first but it was Lucy!” By the following morning all 10 chicks had safely made their way out of their shells and were divided between Ladybirds and Bumblebees—there were four boys—who have yellow fluff and feathers—and six girls who are a darker brown. Rosie really liked holding them when they were fluffy. Ewan said “It was fun naming them, I called one Cedric.” Over the past two weeks they have lost their initial fluff and are now developing their feathers. ‘They were really cute and I like them cheeping,’ said Phoebe. The children have enjoyed learning about a chicken’s life cycle and .writing about them. Aden commented “I liked it when they started to grow their chicken feathers. We all agree with Henry when he said “We will all miss our chicks when they go back to the farm”. Reception Team
