How do we know the academic potential students have? – Mr Mellows
•Remember key stage 2 SATs?• English, Maths, Science.• Students were given a level (e.g. 4,5)•Actually they were given a sub level
too (e.g. level 4c, 5b) Each sub level is worth points! level 4c =27, 5c =33
KS2 Average points score (APS)•Add up the sub level points, divide
by 3 gives an Average Points Score.
•APS are used to PREDICT key stage 4 outcomes (GCSE/BTEC outcomes)
Key stage 2 was a long time ago.•We agree!• Fischer Family Trust – FFT (national
data)•Compares our students to other
schools nationally•Our goal is to be in the top 25%
nationally - FFT D targets

We assess across all subjects
•Assessment tells us how a student is currently performing•We can track progress against FFT D•We can start interventions•We can prepare students for LINEAR
(end of year 11) exams(a few subjects still have year 10 external exams e.g. BTEC P.E. Science)
One exam entry only at KS4
• Linear exams mean one chance to enter•We track CORE subjects very closely•Heads of Core meet every 2 weeks •We update assessment data every
month• Last year 81% C+ grades in Maths 71% C+ in English
Monitoring:Internal and External Exams
• Experience of several exams in short space of time• Revision guidance• ‘Results day’•Monitoring progress and preparing for
linear exams•
