Yarrawonga’s first public artwork is set for com-pletion in the coming weeks.
The artwork will be situated 7km east of Yar-rawonga on the shore of Lake Mulwala, with installation expected in early December. The
artwork, also known as Lake Mulwala Dream-ing, will be unveiled in conjunction with the Yar-rawonga Arts Council’s Music in the Park event. The annual event will be held on Sunday, Decem-ber 11 from 5pm to 7pm with the unveiling of
Lake Mulwala Dreaming to take place at 6pm.
Moira Shire Council-lor Jessie McCallum said the artwork would fea-ture Indigenous Austral-ians and native flora and fauna.
“The artwork will be impressive structures and will certainly make a
bold statement, which is what all good public art should do,” Cr McCallum said. “The selected site is open and cast with beau-tiful views, and together with the artwork is set to offer a ‘wow’ factor to Yarrawonga on the ap-proach to the town.”
The artwork is being created by David Bell and Gary Tippet of GD Art, with transporta-tion to Yarrawonga and
installation expected in early December.
Cr McCallum encour-aged community mem-bers to attend the Yar-rawonga Arts Council’s Music in the Park event and witness the unveiling of the artwork.
“Bring your own picnic chairs and rug and enjoy the sounds of Yarrawon-ga band Eze and Zech and more,” she said.
Works to upgrade storm-water infrastructure in Rosemary Court, Yar-rawonga, will begin in coming weeks.
The works are part of Moira Shire Council’s $500,000 major drainage upgrade to be undertaken throughout the Shire this financial year.
Moira Shire Councillor Rob Chuck said the upgrade would improve drainage capacity and reduce the occurrence of localised flooding in instances of severe weather events.
“Rosemary Court was identified as a problem area at a drainage workshop attended by
Councillors and Council Officers earlier in the year,” Cr Chuck said.
The upgrade is scheduled to begin in coming weeks and will take between four and six weeks to complete.
Piping to drain stormwater from the street will be replaced with larger diameter pipes
to improve drainage flow. Other works will include the installation of grated side entry stormwater pits.
“These upgrades will help reduce flooding in the street and allow stormwater to be drained from the area more effectively,” Cr Chuck said.
“I would like to thank those residents affected for their patience as works will continue for some time. I’d also like to assure residents that every possible attempt will be made to minimise the inconvenience for those accessing Rosemary Court,” he said.
