CHINMAYA VIDYALAYA

The Chinmaya Vidyalaya has as its emblem, the lamp and the Hamsa'

bird. In the light of the Scriptures (represented by the lamp) the

discriminative power of the human intellect is to be developed

(represented by the Hamsa bird). Vedic tradition describes Hamsa as a

bird that can drink milk alone from a solution of milk and water. The

human intellect with its discriminative power must be able to

discriminate between spirit and matters and must come to enjoy the

Spiritual Essence in the world of names and forms. Thus the emblem

indicates that the function of the Mission is to help people in developing

ethical values and cultivating in them a discriminative intellect.

'KEEP SMILING' is our Vidyalaya motto. This means: Be brave and

courageous always, face every experience of life with a smile on your

face. In other words, be balanced in life under all circumstances joy or

sorrow, success or failure, honour or dishonour, prosperity or adversity.

This calmness of the mind expresses itself in a smile.

Swamiji's Message

From a feudal, quiet sleeping society, our country is today marching into

the modern, fast, electronic age with our heads flaming with material

ambitions and our hearts shrunk into ugly selfishness. The

overemphasis of materialism has made individuals twisted and ugly in

their essential cultural grace.

The politician, the economist and the scientist cannot see anything

beyond the material world when they shouldn't be so. Their job is to

organise and create a rich, prosperous and peaceful world around, with

technology contributing to the comforts and achievements of the

members in the society. The educationists have to bring about

enhancement in the performance of man, the result of which will be a

cultivated inner discipline and larger vision.

We are trying in our Vidyalayas to educate the children to score in the

material world following the secular syllabus prescribed by the

Government, but in an atmosphere, of spiritual presence. We select,

train and therefore expect our teachers to have such a spiritual balance

in themselves, that they can spread the grace and glory in the

classroom. Under such a gracious canopy of moral and ethical charm,

we find the students blooming into men and women, self-controlled,

disciplined and dynamically striving with a magnificent vision.

The school has grown from a strength of 30 students to nearly 2300

students and the teaching faculty from 4 to 99. From a humble

beginning the school building has become a strong edifice with 59

classrooms, a spacious playground and a grand Auditorium with a

seating capacity of 700.

The subject clubs like the, Literary, Mathematics, Science and Social

Studies keep the students aware of the latest development in the

subjects.

Students are also encouraged to take part in all cultural activities at the

intra and inter school levels.

Teachers of our Vidyalaya are provided with opportunities to attend

seminars to keep abreast with the latest changes and trends in the

teaching methodology and to quench their thirst for knowledge.

The dizzy height of tomorrow beckons the children of today and it is the

duty of parents, teachers and society to trigger optimism into them.

Affiliation

Our School is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education,

Delhi. This is a co-educational English medium school, following the

same syllabus and curriculum, followed by Kendriya Vidyalayas.

Course of Studies

This school follows the reorganised pattern of education of 10+2 years

Of the Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi.

Aims and Objectives :

W To offer children a value-based and holistic education which paves

the way for the Integrated Development of the physical, mental,

intellectual and spiritual aspects of the personality, enriched by the

knowledge of Indian Culture, a feeling of Patriotism and a Universal

Outlook.

W To mould children into young men and women of moral strength

who can face the challenges of modern life with a smile and

make a difference in the world by their positive contribution.

W To give a practical and judicious combination of academic

excellence, extra-curricular pursuits, character building and

personality development.

Introduction About the Vidyalaya

The Vidyalaya had its humble beginning at 13th Avenue, Harrington

Road, Chennai - 31, on Vijayadasami Day in October 1968, with a

meagre strength of 30. In the last few decades the Vidyalaya has grown

remarkably with its Senior Section having moved to Taylor’s Road,

Chennai - 10.

The Primary Section has also expanded and occupies a well-designed

block at 17, Harrington Road. The new High School building, at Taylor’s

Road was consecrated by our Pujya Gurudev on 12, August 1990.

The Vidyalaya operating under Central Chinmaya Mission Trust,

Mumbai, besides offering education through the CBSE stream, imparts

value based education which extends a strong and effective moral

foundation. The methodology based on “Chinmaya Vision Programme”

establishes a foundation for integrated personality development,

extends an indepth knowledge of Indian-culture and instils feelings of

patriotism.

Page 24: YAVID R Evening Prayer 3.00 C A Chinmaya Vidyalaya€¦ · Class ... Shri.Rajkumar Devarajan Hony.Correspondent : Shri.Jaishankar Unnithan Hony ... Biology : Mrs.Vasanthy Vijayakumar

Mental Development : It aims at helping a child to be emotionally

balanced. It thereby helps one to live in harmony with oneself and the

world. It includes emotional expansion, handling emotions, handling

relationships, gender specific education, mental health assessment

and counselling.

Intellectual Development : Man has infinite intellectual potential.

Under this head, C.V.P. aims to help the child manifest his / her inherent

Intellectual capacities and enhance the existing ones. It includes

intellectual kindling, independent thinking, management skills,

aesthetics, intellectual assessment and guidance.

Spiritual Development : Man is potentially divine, Spiritual

development enables the child to discover his / her inherent divinity and

manifest it. It Is achieved through value education, value based

education, philosophy, meditation techniques, yoga etc.

Indian Culture : Culture is more than just art forms, festivals and

rituals. Culture is the very way of life of a race and its thinking, which

makes it unique and special. The child is given a wide exposure to the

various aspects of our Culture, cultural awareness and appreciation of

the vast literary, artistic and scientific heritage of India, explanations of

customs and traditions and cultural awareness through hobbies and

projects etc.

Patriotism : This vital area of focus includes education in citizenship,

civic consciousness, fostering pride in being an Indian, inspite of the

diversity. It aims at moulding students into dedicated and committed

citizens who take real pride in serving the nation.

Universal Outlook : Universal Outlook refers to an appreciation,

sensitivity and commitment to universal issues. A universal outlook

helps to view himself/herself as a responsible citizen of the world

(including world issues), live in harmony with creation (environment

education and the synthesis between science and religion) as well as

become aware of being an intrinsic part of the macrocosm.

Chinmaya Vision Programme:

The Chinmaya Vision Programme is what makes the Chinmaya

Educational Institutions ‘Schools with a difference’. It concretizes

Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda’s vision of education.

Yathaa drishti tathaa srishti - As the vision, so the world appears to

us. If man’s vision is narrow and disturbed, the world also seems filled

with strife. If the vision is broad and love-filled, so too is his world.

Chinmaya Vision Programme (CVP) was born to enshrine the

philosophy of education developed by Pujya Gurudev Swami

Chinmayananda in the heart of every growing child to bring out the best

in him or her.

Chinmaya Vision Programme is a comprehensive educational

programme for schools which integrates the best in our culture and

philosophy of education. It aims at giving children a true vision of life to

help them face challenges in a positive and dynamic manner and

heartily contribute to society.

The child is the focal point of this programme. The programme also

embraces the school management, teachers and parents.Through

them, the light of thi vs spreads to the society, country and the world at

large.

The Chinmaya Vision Programme can be classified as follows:-

Integrated Development : It aims at the overall unfoldment and gentle

blossoming of the child at the physical, mental, intellectual and spiritual

levels of his / her personality.

Physical Development : It implies good health and proper growth of

children leading to the optimum expression of their overall well-being. It

includes physical fitness, nutrition, hygiene, personal grooming, health

education, health assessment, prevention of diseases and their

treatment.

scales enable him/her to assess self-worth and effectiveness.

The Parent is gradually drawn into the programme through

Manuals, workshops, child assessment, self assessment and

expert advice.

W The school management through its active participation

significantly supports this programme which aims at “all-round

development”, and not just academic excellence

This Chinmaya Vision Programme makes significant

breakthrough in the Character-moulding and personality

development of growing children complementing academic

excellence which is what true education is all about.

CVP is not an activity but a vision-inducing programme - the very

spirit behind all activities in the Vidyalaya. It is not a ‘value add,

‘but it is the Vidyalaya culture’.

It is not portion-based, but attitude based.

CVP is Value Education and Value-based Education. Value

Education is imparted through stories, activities, games etc, in a

specific allotted time, whereas Value based education is

inculcated through all the academic subjects and co-curricular

and extra curricular activities of the Vidyalaya. CVP is not only

Value education, but also value-based education.
