You can use this chart to substitute or compare colors for any kind of project—from amigurumi to graphghans, this chart can help! Simply browse by color set. Each row on the chart lists a different brand or type yarn. Colors that are similar to each other are aligned in the columns.
Note that the color suggestions in this chart are simply suggestions, and they are not perfect matches. You will find that some spaces on the chart for certain yarns/colors have been left blank. This was done to indicate that, at the time of this publication, that particular yarn did not offer a comparable yarn color for substitution.
HOW TO USE IT
You may use this chart to choose colors for your project that come from different yarn brands. Mixing yarns like this can lead you to an even wider range of colors than what is presented in this chart!
A note about texture: Some yarns are shiner than others, such as Caron Simply Soft and Red Heart Soft. If you are concerned about the shine or lack of shine for your project, mix accordingly.
A note about yarn weights: All of the yarns on this chart are medium/aran/worsted-weight yarns except for Stylecraft Special DK, which is a DK/light-weight yarn. Mixing yarn weights is inadvisable, because that can adversely affect the size and thickness of your project.
Personal note: I’ve found that Loops & Threads Impeccable yarn is a bit thicker than Vanna’s Choice or Red Heart yarns, whereas Caron Simply Soft is a tad bit thinner than Vanna’s Choice or Red Heart yarns. The difference in thickness isn’t really enough to worry about, but it is something to consider if you’re picky about mixing yarns like I am!
