Because food banks across the country are facing severe shortages of non-perishable items, federal

employees (military and civilian) nationwide are step-ping up to meet this challenge. The federal-wide “Feds Feed Families Food Drive” campaign recently began and will continue on until Aug. 31. Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) is working with DoD and OPM to meet a goal of two million pounds of donated non-perishable food. Most wanted items are canned fruits and vegetables, multigrain cereal, grains, canned proteins, soups, 100% juice, condiments, snacks, paper products and house-hold items, and hygiene items. The last Yardlines featured an electrical safety ar-ticle. What three things did the article remind

employees they need to utilize, especially during the hot summer months, when working around electricity or using electric devices? You can post your answer to our Facebook page under the discussion “Electrical Safety” @ https://www.facebook.com/topic.php?topic=16612&uid=200008567798

Effective Monday Aug. 1, the parking area in front of building 1502 will be closed to all vehicle park-

ing and a new area will be opened on the northwest side and back of the building. Travelers observe and take caution as there will be a new traffic pattern to and from parking at the northeast corner of George Washington highway leading into Gate 15--travelers should be mindful of traffic going into Gate 15. Upon exiting the parking lot travelers will need to make a right turn--traveling toward Gate 15--then make a U-turn at Green Street to get back to either George Washington Hwy or Ef-fingham St. If inside the shipyard, it is not recommended employees utilize Gate 15 to get to the pass office.

Pass & I.D. update!Employees traveling to the pass office from inside the shipyard are encouraged to use Gate 10 where they can easily turn left onto Portsmouth Blvd. and then drive to the junction of Effingham St. and George Washington Hwy. This in turn will allow travelers the ability to turn left into the roundabout that leads to Gate 15 and the entrance to the pass office parking lot. Please use care and caution at all time. You can leave questions or com-ments on the NNSY Facebook Fan page at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Norfolk-Naval-Ship-yard-NNSY/200008567798

On Saturday, June 28 we held a fun outing at a much improved golf course in Virginia Beach--

Stumpy Lake. We had 54 players come out and enjoy a day of golf while it was sunny and 85. Thanks to all at Stumpy for keeping the course in great shape and making it fun. Our closest to the pin winner on #3 was Ken Little. Gordon Martin won #7 and Larry Barker #12 while Eric Hakanson took #16. Congratu-lations to all! One of our favorite outings of the year is the Hot and Cold at the Riverfront Golf Course. We play a post flighted two-man captain’s choice that brings some surprising winners. There was a delicious meal served after the round and a drawing was held for prizes also. We all want to thank our friends at Riverfront and Hot and Cold for joining us for a great sunny day of golf. Our winners for closest to the pin for #2 was Steve Fairneny, #4 Mason Riggins, #11 was won by Mike Andrews and lucky #13 was taken by Danny Oertel. This year’s Brumby Bowl will be played at Nan-semond River Golf Course and we always have an outing at the host course before the big day so on Sat-urday June 11, 50 players came out on another sunny day of golf. This course is going to be tough but a lot of fun for our two day tournament. Our closest to the pin winner for #2 was Jason Shipp, Berbel Arnel was closest to the long #7. John Lencmeyer won #11 and Billy Gilpin took #16. Suffolk Golf Course was in great shape to hold our golf outing on Saturday June 25. We had 61 play-ers come out on this sunny morning to play golf for

fellowship and fun. Our closest to the pin winner Kendall Eakes took #6, Wayne Marek #9, and Brian Faulkner won #14 and last year’s Presidents Cup win-ner Sam Coco struck gold on #16. On a day when you wake up and it rained most of the night and looks gloomy for the next day 55 players drove 90 minutes to Albemarle Plantation Golf Course hoping for a sunny day (see picture above). The golf gods were with us that day and after a 30 minute delay we headed out and the sun followed us out to the course. The course was in great shape and the play-ers all had smiles after the round. This outing was our Stableford tournament; it’s just another way for golfers to measure themselves to the rest of the pack. Here are the Stableford and closest to the pin winners: #2 Ted Hartung, #6 Billy Best, #11 Ed Cassidy, Jr., #14 Michael Mathews Stableford, 1st Place Dave Harris (+7) , Tie 2nd & 3rd Place--Charlie Price & Tim Sand-ers (+6), Tie 4th, 5th, 6th Place--Larry Brown, Charlie Burroughs, Ed Brusso (+4) NNSYGA would like to welcome to NNSY the new employees and to let them know that all are welcome to join or just come out and play. The officers for NNSYGA are ready to sign up members for the 2011 season. Contact info is listed on the web site www.nn-sygolf.com. Our membership is still $25 which pays for discounts to golf outings, maintaining an official handicap and allows you to play in special tourna-ments. Call or email George Dunlow our starter at [email protected] to sign up for the next outing!
