Principal’s News Welcome back to Week 8 of Term 4! The school is a hive of activity as we busily prepare the annual end of year activities, including the Year 6 Graduation, Presentation Night, School Reports, the end of year Aquatics Fun Day, Light Up Leeton and the school’s Intensive Swimming Program. Please ensure you are aware of all the activities through the school newsletter or website, in particular the venue for our end of year Presentation Night. This year staff have participated in additional professional learning activities during evenings which means that the end of year School Development Days have been completed. The school community should be aware that the last day for students is Friday, 16 December 2016. No staff will be at the school on Monday and Tuesday, 19 and 20 December 2016. Proud and Deadly Awards Congratulations to Miriam Dolan (Leadership), Jaite Eyles (Leadership) and Zaide Eyles (Encouragement), who received awards at last night’s Riverina Proud and Deadly Awards held at Parkview Public School. It was another very successful event hosted by the Leeton Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG) to recognise the achievements of our Indigenous students. Primary Assembly The final Primary Assembly for 2016 was held yesterday. Thank you to all parents and community members who stayed for morning tea and to all those who have supported the students during the year by attending primary assemblies and celebrating the achievement of students. Congratulation to all students who received an award today! Light Up Leeton Light Up Leeton will take place this Sunday, 4 December 2016 at Mountford Park, Leeton. All students are requested to meet Miss Grigg and staff at Madonna Place at 5.45 pm. Please take note of the letter sent home with students early this week advising them of what to wear. Fairy Tale News – A Year 3- 6 Production Mrs Keen and her band of parent helpers have been very busy preparing for their production of the play Fairy Tale News, which they will perform at the Yanco All-Servicemen’s Club on the evening of Tuesday, 6 December 2016, commencing at 6.00 pm. All proceeds will go to Red Cross and Country Hope as students raise funds to support charities as part of the development of citizenship skills. We hope to see lots of people there. Presentation Night The annual school presentation Night will be held on Tuesday, 13 December 2016, commencing at 7.00 pm. It will again be held at the Yanco Institute Hall, after the very positive feedback we received last year after moving the Presentation Night to the new location. After Presentation Night supper will be served and we might Santa might even drop in to say hello! Year 6 Graduation Year 6 Graduation will be held at the Yanco All-Servicemen’s Club on Thursday, 8 December 2016. Invitations will be sent out this week to Year 6 students and their families and Year 5 students, who may attend to farewell the Year 6 students. It would be greatly appreciated if parents and families could RSVP the school as soon as possible so catering can be finalised.
Christmas Scripture On Tuesday, 6 December 2016 the school will be visited by our lovely Scripture teachers, who will join together to celebrate Christmas with all of our students in a whole school celebration of Christmas. Semester Two Reports Staff are finalising the Semester Two reports. These will be sent home with students on Wednesday, 14 December 2016. Parents are reminded that if they have any concerns after the have received their child’s report, please contact the school and make an appointment to discuss your child’s progress with their classroom teacher. Last Day of School Last day of school for students will be Friday, 16 December 2016. It is planned for students to once again spend the day at the Yanco Agricultural High School swimming pool to participate in an end of year Aquatics Fun Day.
Sports Report Intensive Swimming Program The school’s Intensive Swimming program commenced this week and will continue daily until next Friday, 9 December 2016. There have been some minor changes to organisation, with AUSTSWIM Instructor Miss Laura Brindley being unable to assist this year and Miss Meg Collins replacing her. The time has also changed slightly so that we can fit our session in between Leeton and Parkview Public Schools’ sessions, at approximately 12.00 to 12.45 pm. Next week they may be slightly earlier as Leeton PS will have finished. Please assist with the organisation for this program by returning the $2.00 each day for bus transport promptly to the front office. Aquatics Fun Day On the last day of school, Friday 16 December 2016, students will travel to Yanco Agricultural High School to participate in the school’s annual end of year Aquatics Fun Day. Permission notes will be sent home next week for this
P and C News Meeting Monthly meetings of the Yanco Public School P & C are now held on the second Thursday of every month. Meetings are attended by the school principal, Mr Timothy Allen, and are a major opportunity for consultation with the school community. The last meeting scheduled for the year was set to take place in the library on Thursday, 8 December 2016, commencing at 3.30 pm. Due to a clash with the Year 6 Farewell, a new date will be advised Canteen As most parents and carers should be aware, the school canteen will now operate every Thursday, with a fixed menu ‘meal deal’ being offered each week. The canteen will be operated on alternating weeks by P & C parent volunteers and the Year 6 Student Leadership Team
