Judges & Teachers – YAGP 2015 Austin, TX
Ethan Brown Ethan Brown is a former soloist with American Ballet Theatre. During his twenty-three years with the company he danced a wide variety of leading classical and contemporary roles in ABT's repertoire. Among the major ballet companies and schools he has taught for are ABT and ABT II Company Class, ABT JKO School, ABT Summer Intensives Program in New York and Bermuda, Royal Winnipeg Ballet Company and School, New Jersey Ballet, Tennessee Ballet, Maryland Youth Ballet, Columbus Youth Ballet, Steps on Broadway, Ballet Academy East and Broadway Dance Center. Brown is also an ABT Certified Teacher for ABT's National Training Curriculum. Dierdre Miles Burger Dierdre Miles Burger began her training with the Boston Ballet with a Ford Foundation Scholarship. She joined Boston Ballet as an Apprentice at the age of 14. Upon graduation she joined the Company as a member of the Corps de Ballet. She danced many Principal Roles in her years at Boston Ballet. Upon her retirement in 1993 she joined the Artistic Staff of Boston Ballet and was appointed Artistic Co-coordinator in 1998. In 2002 She was appointed Principal of Boston Ballet School, developing the Boston Ballet School Ensemble and its Trainee Program. Ms. Miles Burger is now the Director of the Orlando Ballet School. Carlos dos Santos, Jr. Carlos dos Santos, Jr. is a noted Brazilian performer and choreographer, who performed as a principal dancer with major Brazilian dance companies such as, Bale Folclorico da Bahia, Bale Teatro Castro Alves and DanceBrazil. In the U.S., Mr. Dos Santos has performed with Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble, and the Alvin Ailey Repertory Ensemble, where he also served as a company teacher. His choreographic credits include works for Colorado Ballet, Alvin Ailey American Dance Center, American Dance Festival, Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble, DanceBrazil, Cape town dance company (South Africa) Alvin Ailey 2, Joffrey Ballet 2, Houston ballet 2, CUNY residency choreographer, WKY University Residency choreographer, with Dance Brasil he has created many projects, including his latest collaboration with award-winning composer, Tania Leon. Mr. Dos Santos has taught at dance schools, colleges and universities throughout the U.S. and abroad and has served as a jury member and resident choreographer of Youth America Grand Prix international student ballet competition since its inception. Wendy Perron Wendy Perron had a 30-year career as a dancer/choreographer of contemporary dance. She was a member of the Trisha Brown Company in the 1970s and choreographed more than 40 works for her own company in the 1980s and ’90s. She has taught technique and composition at various universities, and served as associate director of Jacob’s Pillow in the early 1990s. Her writing on dance has appeared in the New York Times, the Village Voice, and Dance Europe. Wendy was editor in chief of Dance Magazine from 2004 to 2013, where she continues to post a weekly blog and conduct the “Choreography in Focus” series as editor-at-large. She has lectured on dance all over the U.S. and is currently teaching a course in contemporary dance at NYU. Her book of selected writings, Through the Eyes of a Dancer, was published in 2013.
Karine Plantadit Karine Plantadit is a dancer and performer. She was born in France and raised in Cameroon. She moved to Cannes, France, at age 14 to study dance. She subsequently moved to New York City to study dance with Alvin Ailey. In addition, she has appeared in Broadway shows including Saturday Night Fever, Movin’ Out, The Lion King, and Come Fly Away. Sally Herrera Rojas Sally Herrera Rojas is a native of Caracas, Venezuela. She moved to Miami at the age of 10 and began her Ballet training with Thomas Amour, Robert Pike and Judith Reece Newman. She trained further at the School of American Ballet and American Ballet Theater. She joined ABT II at 16. Ms. Rojas joined Houston Ballet Company and danced as a Soloist until her retirement in 2004. Since her retirement she has been a leading Faculty Member of the Houston Ballet Ben Stevenson Academy.
Mikhail Tchoupakov
Mikhail Tchoupakov was born and raised in Moscow and graduated from the Bolshoi Ballet Academy and performed with the Bolshoi Ballet Company for nine years. He is a graduate of the Moscow State Academy of Choreography, where he received his M.F.A. in Ballet Pedagogy and Choreography. Upon moving to the U.S, Tchoupakov has performed with Sarasota Ballet of Florida, Los Angeles Classical Ballet, Vienna State Opera Ballet, San Francisco Opera Ballet and Colorado Ballet performing diverse classical and contemporary repertoire. He has also served as a Ballet Master and Répétiteur for Colorado Ballet and was on the faculty of the Academy of Colorado Ballet. Tchoupakov is currently a leading faculty member of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.
