Overview Freescale has expertise in micro-magnetic and MEMS technology for sensor-based solutions. The MAG3110 magnetometer is Freescale’s first magnetic sensor and expands its consumer sensor product portfolio that is comprised of accelerometers, pressure and touch sensors. Freescale’s MAG3110 is a small, low-power, 3-axis digital magnetometer. The MAG3110 magnetometer measures the three components of the local magnetic field which will be the sum of the geomagnetic field and the magnetic field created by components on the circuit board. The MAG3110 features a standard I 2 C serial interface and is capable of measuring local magnetic fields up to 1000 uT with output data rates (ODR) up to 80 Hz. Freescale is one of the only semiconductor suppliers that also offers 3-axis accelerometers that can be used in conjunction with 3-axis magnetometers to produce orientation independent accurate compass heading information. With its very small footprint and extremely low power consumption, Freescale's magnetometer is perfectly suited for mobile phones, tablets, PNDs, laptops and many other portable devices. The combination of the magnetometer with the accelerometer provides a full tilt-compensated electronic compass capability. With a GPS- enabled device, direction-dependent location- based services can be achieved. Other applications include navigation, gesture sensing and remote controls, including air mouse and pointing devices. OverviewFreescale has expertise in micro-magnetic and
MEMS technology for sensor-based solutions.
The MAG3110 magnetometer is Freescale’s
first magnetic sensor and expands its consumer
sensor product portfolio that is comprised of
accelerometers, pressure and touch sensors.
Freescale’s MAG3110 is a small, low-power,
3-axis digital magnetometer. The MAG3110
magnetometer measures the three components
of the local magnetic field which will be the
sum of the geomagnetic field and the magnetic
field created by components on the circuit
board. The MAG3110 features a standard I2C
serial interface and is capable of measuring
local magnetic fields up to 1000 uT with output
data rates (ODR) up to 80 Hz.
Freescale is one of the only semiconductor
suppliers that also offers 3-axis accelerometers
that can be used in conjunction with 3-axis
magnetometers to produce orientation independent
accurate compass heading information.
With its very small footprint and extremely
low power consumption, Freescale's
magnetometer is perfectly suited for mobile
phones, tablets, PNDs, laptops and many
other portable devices.
The combination of the magnetometer with the
accelerometer provides a full tilt-compensated
electronic compass capability. With a GPS-
enabled device, direction-dependent location-
based services can be achieved.
Other applications include navigation, gesture
sensing and remote controls, including air
mouse and pointing devices.
