Championing the XTL Industry

The future of gas, coal and biomass to liquids looks brighter than ever with favourable market conditions,

exciting new project developments and breakthrough technologies. XTL represents a class of technologies

used to convert various feedstocks into liquid hydrocarbons, such as GTL (gas to liquid), CTL (coal to

liquid), BTL (biomass to liquid).

As the premier international forum for networking and debate the World XTL Summit attracts delegates

from across the value chain and reveals the new opportunities and solutions that are driving the growth.

Now in its twelfth year the Summit is recognised as the showcase for the XTL industry.

Monday 21 May 2012 Executive Briefing

Providing a fast-track understanding of the latest developments in the XTL industry and what makes XTL an attractive investment

The structural changes in oil prices seen in recent years have led to a surge of interest in technologies that convert natural gas, biomass and coal into high-value synthetic oil products, such as diesel, kerosene and naphtha. The family of conversion processes known as “XTL” based on Fischer-Tropsch (F-T) technology is attracting particular attention.

The Executive Briefing will examine the key economic drivers for XTL, summarise the progress of operational projects and those under construction, and consider what the future holds for Fischer-Tropsch technology.

XTL Economics, Technologies & Markets

Led by: Alex Forbes, Director, Forbes Communications Limited

Independent journalist and consultant Alex Forbes has been reporting on energy developments and analysing trends for three decades. His expertise covers the whole gamut of energy – including oil, natural gas, electricity, policy, regulation, climate change and the geopolitics of energy supply security. His specialisms include unconventional fossil fuels, liquefied natural gas (LNG), XTL (the conversion of gas, biomass and coal into liquid products), nuclear power and renewables.

“In the current energy price environment, well-executed XTL projects will make substantial profits for their owners and other stakeholders”. Alex Forbes, Director, Forbes Communications Limited
