General Description XRS10L140 (140) is a low power, low latency, high performance 1 to 4 SATA-II Port Multiplier. XRS10L120 (120) is a 1 to 2 Port Multiplier, a cost-reduced version of 140. Speed Auto-negotiating PHY, deep rate-adaptation FIFO, and extensive InterOp testing make them most compatible Port Multipliers in the world. Their cost effective implementation makes them ideal for eSATA drive enclosures, DVRs, digital video surveillance systems, and entry-level servers. XRS10L140 is offered in 100-pin LQFP package with industrial temperature grade. It’s pin compatible with XRS10L120IV (a 1:2 PM with reduced die size), easy for customer to migrate between the 2 devices. XRS10L120 is offered in both 100-pin LQFP and 64-pin QFN packages. Both 140 and 120 are powered with a single 1.2V supply. An on-chip crystal oscillator supports both 3GHz and 1.5G data rates.
XRS10L240 (240) is a Combo chip consisting of a 2 to 1 SATA-II Port Selector followed by a 1 to 4 SATA-II Port Multiplier. XRS10L220 (220), a cost-reduced version of the 240 is a 2 to 1 SATA-II Port Selector followed by a 1 to 2 SATA-II Port Multiplier.

XRS10L240 and XRS10L220 are offered in a 100-pin LQFP package. They are both powered with a single 1.2V supply. An on-chip crystal oscillator supports both 3GHz and 1.5G data rates. Major Features

Applications Applications for the 140/120 are very broad ranging from HD DVR, home NAS, drive enclosure, High-end PCs, and video surveillance systems to blade server mid-plane. The 140 can find applications where extra SATA ports are needed when host controller(s) are AHCI compliant or PM-aware. Applications for the 240/220 include drive enclosures; they allow drive enclosure manufacturers to enhance capacity with failover protection. There’s no competing device for the XRS10L220/240 combos. There’s no competing SATA device equivalent to the XRS10L220/240 combo devices. Sales Strategy The XRS10L140/120/220/240 supports the expansion of the number of SATA-I/II ports available on a SATA Host Controller. The XRS10Lxx0 family is the industry’s only SATA-I/II port multiplier family operational over industrial temperature range, which can drive over 2 meters of eSATA cable without the need of Phy programming. They have the industry’s lowest power/port and are available in the same 100 pin LQFP facilitating one PCB design to accommodate all 4 devices allowing scalability from 2 to 4 ports. In general we have significant (> 50%) power advantage over the competition. Selling against Silicon Image: • Our solution occupies 20% to 50% less board space • All Silicon Image PMs need an external $1.20 FLASH device for code store • No MCU or programming needed - default register settings are good for most applications Selling against Marvel: • Marvel announced the 1:4 Port Multiplier, 88SM4140 in 2004 • May not be compliant to the latest SATA standards • Interoperability with newer Hosts and Drives may be an issue • From latest research and inquiry they don’t have a 1:2 PM • For 1:2 PM application we occupy 30% less board space
