Product Description and RangeCertificationThe XPS Tile-Backer Boards and Shower Tray concept are certified according ICC PMG listing and meet the standards of ASTM testing for fire and waterproofing and are suitable Boards as part of the water proof installation.

ProductThe XPS Board core features a CFC-free, closed cell core made from Extruded Polystyrene Rigid Foam (XPS). The standard XPS Boards are reinforced with fiberglass mesh on both sides and coated with a synthetic polymer resin and MgO mortar.

Product Range • XPS Tile Backer Board – supplied as flat, L, U shape and round shapeable boards • XPS Shower Tray concept with drain – supplied square and in rectangular format • The XPS Board as Underlayment for Floor heating system - factory grooved and can be aluminum top foiled.

Product Benefits are • The lightest product in the market for heavy duty, used for tile-backer Board • Waterproofness and zero capillarity • Easy to cut by knife or saw • Cannot delaminate and is free of organic material • Does not ignite or fuel any fire • Very good thermal insulation • Do not support mold – fungus etc.

Wall Application in Wet area and ShowersThe XPS Tile-Backer Board, XPS Shower Tray, XPS Shapeable, L and U shape Boards (fig 1.) are engineered as a general purpose underlayment for tiles and is especially designed for high moisture area. The XPS will not absorb water nor does it need additional waterproofing, due to it’s internal waterproofness and zero capillarity.

Wall Installation in Wet area and Showers Wood Stud wallsStandard construction (fig 2)Apply 2’ x 8’ x ½” XPS Tile-Backer Board directly to the 2” x 4” Studs, Joist spacing 12” o.c. Mount with Galvanized Fasteners (screws 1 5/8”) and washers with tabs (1 ¼” diameter), max distance between fasteners 12”. The fastener is set right into the joint where the washer head presses both Board edges together and allows for the flush transition.

Sealing concept (fig 2):After the first Board is applied, apply approx. ½” bead of the Polyurethane Sealer and Adhesive on the foam edge towards next Board and before next Board is applied (Boards shall be joined by butting tightly together). Access sealant is hereafter spread over top of all joints (1” wide on both side of the seam), remove rest of the access sealant so Boards are flush.

Fig 2 : Installation with Polyurethane Sealer and Adhesive, Boards can be installed, horizontal or vertical:

Alternative to the polyurethane sealer concept above is the “Waterproof Sealing Tape - Fleece laminated” (fig 3. below). The Sealing Tape should not be used alone where standing water can occur. The Sealing Tape is used for waterproofing of both inside and outside corners, sealed with modified mortar. To make corners, cut to center of the Sealing Tape from one edge and bend sealing tape and you have a corner, again seal with modified mortar.

The Waterproof Sealing Tape - Fleece laminated (Fig 4.) is also perfect for creating flush transaction to drywall when using appropriate thickness.

Tiling can now directly be applied, in a fraction of the time required by traditional methods known.

Floor installation Wet area - Wood Stud Floors (fig3.)Wood /M4 (noncombustible) subfloor should be constructed so the deflection do not exceed 1/360 of the total distance between floor joist (ASTM C626). Normally 5/8” Plywood /OSB or M4 boards and joist spacing 16” o.c. fulfill demand. Apply ¼” or ½” XPS Boards on the subfloor simply by spreading modified cement mortar (following manufacture instruction) over the clean subfloor. Apply the boards by laying the boards into the mortar and use fasteners each 12” into the floor joist. Tape all joints with the waterproof sealing tape, or fiberglass mesh, seal with modified mortar.

Shower-Tray installation over Wood Subfloor (Fig 5.)The XPS Shower Trays are specially for the shower area, with build in, minimum 2% drain angel. Wood /M4 (noncombustible) subfloor should be constructed so the deflection do not exceed 1/360 of the total distance between floor joist (ASTM C626). Normally 5/8” Plywood /OSB or M4 boards and joist spacing 16” o.c. fulfill demand.

Installation:Measure and mark where your drain will be fitted on the subfloor, cut drain whole in the subfloor and fix the Below part of the drain between the floor joist in correct height, in fast drying modified cement motar/wood stucture.

Apply approx. ½” bead of the polyurethane sealer and adhesive on the two edges of the Shower-Tray (toward the walls boards) or on the two wall sides towards the Shower-Tray (the wall XPS tile backer board and Shower-Tray shall be butting tightly together – remove access sealer). Before applying the Shower-Tray on the subfloor, spread modified cement mortar over the clean subfloor and hereafter in-stall the Shower-Tray.

Now for corners install the Waterproof Sealing Tape - Fleece laminated over seams and Plumbing Seal-ing over water pipes, Edges of the Waterproof Sealing Tape and Plumbing Sealing must be sealed with modified mortar.

Install the Top part of the Drain into the Below part of the drain, by screwing the two drain parts together.

XPS Building Board as Underlayment for Floor Heating SystemsEngineered for Electrical (Fig 6.) and Water Underfloor heating (Fig 7 – 8), can be factory grooved for water tubes, boards are only 1” thick for 5/8” water tubes or 1 ¼” thick for ¾” water tubes. Downward heating loss on concrete floors are prevented due to the thermal insulation value. Boards can further be supplied with factory top mounted aluminum foil, making the floor heating even more effective, see below cut on drawings for different installation detail.

Processing and StoringSafetyAs for all other building materials, safety precautions must be taken into account and local laws and regulations must be observed. Cutting and drilling with circular saw or jigsaw are subject to dust development, and proper precautions must be taken by using appropriate dust extraction equipment and it is recommended the operator carry personal safety equipment.

Application conditionsBoard temperature and ambient temperature should be + 44°F (+7 °C) - 86°F (+30 °C) and relative humidity <85 % (optimally 60 %). Process temperature must be min +44°F (+7 °C).

Storing- Lifted offMulti-Panels products are delivered with plastic protection cover on the pallet. If undamaged, the plastic cover protects against weather conditions during transportation. The pallets should be kept under a roof, leaving the possibility of ventilation around the Panels. Multi-Panels must be stored on a flat and dry level surface on pallets or sleepers with min. 400 mm distance. The Panels must be lifted off the pallet and not drawn over the next board. Lift pallet crosswise and set forks apart to minimize bending of pallet. Fork length must support pallet entirely; if required, use fork extensions.
