Starting a GRIND LeagueTo start a Grindleague, you will need at least our players with registered
regulation Grindteams. Each league player will print out the league card
sheets ound in this document to use or tracking their teams progress.
One registered player will act as the league commissioner (LC). The LC is
responsible or setting up and keeping track o the league schedule using
printouts o the XGL standings and schedule sheets in this document.
MetalMetal measures both the experience and the wealth o your Grindteam.
Metal is earned each XGL game with a greater amount going to the winner.
You can spend metal to enhance your Grindteam by upgrading your
steamjacks and crew. Each upgrade costs an amount o metal equal to the
steamjacks or crewsvlu.
Dtrnng VluEach steamjack and crew has a value o 2 plus the
total number o upgrades it has. Your t vlu is the total value o your
crew plus that o all your steamjacks. Because teams start the league with
no upgrades, your steamjacks and crew are all valued at 2 each, or a total
team value o 12.
Team RegistratinTo register a regulation
Grindteam into the XGL, take a team card rom the
printed league sheets and fll in the team name/player box. Then construct
your team, choose a crew, and choose a sponsor.
Cnstruct Yur Team
Choose either red or blue. Your garage contains all the steamjacks and arms
o the chosen color rom a Grindbox; throughout the league, you will have
the opportunity to purchase additional jacks and arms. At the beginning
o the league, your garage contains two Crushers, three Runners, and the
ollowing arms:
Fists (three left, one right)
Interceptor
Magno-Grip
Scrambler
Gyro-Shot
Grappler
Heavy Fists (two left, one right)
Pulverizer
Wreck-o-Matic
Heavy Grappler
Heavy Gyro Shot
Youve taken powerful steamjacks to the metal-plated oors of the Destructodome,
pitting them against their equals as well as the arena itsel. You know what it takes
to compete. Youre ready or the XGL!
The XGL, Xtreme GrindLeague, is comprised o many Grindteams that clash in
various arenas. Grindcrews, determined to claim glory and tournament prizes, pre-pare their jacks for steam-powered sport. In the XGL, every challenge is welcomed
and met with tenacious hard-hitting iron. In the XGL, itsgo hard or go home.
To construct your team, equip all your steamjacks with arms rom your
garage. Each steamjack must be equipped with two arms. The three left Fists
and two left Heavy Fists can be attached only to the left arm sockets of your
steamjacks. The right Fist, right Heavy Fist, and Interceptor can be attached
only to the right arm sockets o your steamjacks.
Take the steamjack cards and arm cards rom the league card sheets
corresponding to your equipped steamjacks. For each of your steamjacks,
choose a dierent number and write that number in the number boxes on
its steamjack card and arm cards. Write in the arm names on the steamjackcard and mark whether the arm is attached to either the let or right arm
socket o the steamjack. Use the steamjack tags rom the team card sheets
to mark your steamjack fgures according to their numbers.
A regulation Grindteam must be composed o steamjacks
and arms of all the same color (red or blue). Painted teams
are acceptable, but the steamjacks and arms must clearly be
rom either the red or blue set rom a Grindbox.
Chse a Crew
There are our dierent types o crews that can assist your team o
steamjacks on the road to victory. Each crew has a dierent set o
abilities you can gain and upgrade. Choose one o the crew cards rom the
league card sheets: Maintenance Crew, Strategist Crew, Arcanist Crew, or
Augmenter Crew. Fill in the starting value of 2 in the crew value box on
your crew card, then write in your chosen crew type in the crew box on
your team card.
Chse a Spnsr
Sponsors of XGL teams make it easier for you to advance your teams
value. Take a sponsor card rom the league card sheets and choose a Grind
sponsor rom the list on the card. Mark the chosen sponsor box on the
sponsor card. Sponsors remain with you throughout the league until there is
a breach o contract.
LC RespnsibilitiesAter each player in the league has completed registration, the LC collects
their team cards, flls out the team standings sheet, and returns the team
cards to the players.

XGL GamesXGL games take Grindto the extreme. Your turns are timed, and you
can damage your opponents steamjacks, earn metal, and gain the
attention o sponsors.
Td TurnsEach turn has a four-minute time limit. The timer for
your turn starts once your opponents turn is completed. If time expires
in the middle o resolving an action, resolve that action, then your turn
immediately ends.
DgWhen you knock down a steamjack as a result of an attack,
immediately roll for damage. To do this, re-roll all super strikes rolled in the
attack. The results o this roll determine what happens to the steamjack.
N strks: The steamjack takes no damage.
1 strk: The steamjack is rattled.
2 r r strks: The steamjack takes system damage. See the damage
chart on the steamjack card to determine which system is damaged. If no
power dice were rolled in the damage check, the frst three rows on the
damage chart are used. If at least 1 power die was rolled in the damage
check, the last our rows o the damage chart are used.
If the damage roll indicates damage to a system that is already damaged, the
steamjack retains the damage and is also rattled. The eect o a damaged
system remains with the steamjack throughout the league until it is repaired.

Blr: A steamjack with a damaged boiler cannot redline.
Lt ar: A steamjack with a damaged let arm rolls 1 less boost die
whenever using its let arm and cannot use any o its let arm upgrades.
Lgs: A steamjack with damaged legs suffers 1 to its Speed.
Rght ar: A steamjack with a damaged right arm rolls 1 less boost
die whenever using its right arm and cannot use any o its right arm
upgrades.
crtx: A steamjack with a damaged cortex cannot roll power dice,
cannot track ocused actions, and cannot use bonus eects or imprints
rom its ocus card.
ernngsAter each game, you gain 5 metal p lus 1 metal or each goal
you scored.
Snd-Prd SwthAt the start o the second period o an XGL game,
you can choose any fve steamjacks rom your garage to play out the rest o
the game.
Recrd Keeping
Keep track o each o your XGL game results on your team card. Ater each
game, write your opponents name, as it appears on his team card, in the
Current Match-Up line on your team card and indicate whether you won or
lost and how many goals you scored. Update your metal, win/loss record,
and total goals.
League ScheduleAn XGL season consists of up to ten regular season games with a mid-season
tournament and end-of-season playoffs. After the rst half of the season,
all teams enter the mid-season tournament. After the second half of the
season, all teams enter the playos. The better your record during the
season, the easier your playo schedule will be.
mth-Up BnusAter each hal o the season, you gain 1 metal or each
differentplayer you played during that half of the season. So, just before
the mid-season tournament and just before the play-offs, you will gain up
to 5 metal.
LaTe ReGiSTRaTioN & BoNUSeS
New players can enter the league anytime during the league beore theend o the frst hal o the season. A new player must go through the
normal registration process and let the LC know which player in the
league invited them to join the league. That player gains a recruiting
bonus o 2 metal.
When a new player joins the league, determine the lowest number of
games played by a current player. The new player gains a signing bonus
of 5 metal for each of those games and crosses out that many match-
up lines on his team card. The new player can play only the number o
games remaining on his card. The new player can spend his signing bonus
metal to make upgrades beore his frst game.
Mid-Seasn Turnament
The mid-season tournament is played in a three-round, Swiss-pairing
format. Before starting the mid-season tournament, the LC collects the teamcards, updates the XGL mid-season tournament sheet, and returns the team
cards to the players.
If you enter the tournament with a winning record (that is, more wins than
losses) and do not have a sponsor, you gain any one sponsor o your choice.

Plays
The playoffs are played in a single-elimination format. Before starting the
playos, the LC collects the team cards, updates the league schedule sheet,
and returns the team cards to the players.
If you enter the playoffs with a winning record (more wins than losses) and
do not have a sponsor, you gain any one sponsor o your choice.

Having extra steamjacks in your garage will allow you
to change tactics mid-game.
Spnsrshp BnusIf you win a game and you do not have a sponsor, you
gain any one sponsor o your choice. Mark the chosen sponsor box on your
sponsor card. If you just lost a sponsor as a result of the games outcome
you still receive the sponsorship bonus or winning, but you cannot choose
the sponsor you just lost.

Team MaintenanceAter each game, you will have the opportunity to repair, reconigure,
and upgrade your jacks and to purchase extra steamjacks and arms. You
can take these actions as many times as you like as long as you have
enough metal to spend.
Repairs
To repair damage o a single system on a steamjack, spend 1 metal and
remove that damage.
Recnfguratins
To perorm a reconiguration, spend 1 metal and replace an arm on
one o your steamjacks with a dierent legal arm rom your garage.
The replaced arm loses all upgrades and damage and cannot be used in
another reconiguration until ater the next game.
Upgrades
To upgrade your crew or a steamjack that played in the game that just
inished, spend metal equal to its value. A steamjack or crews total
value is equal to 2 plus the total number o its upgrades.
ar UpgrdsEach arm has upgrades in the orm o special skill s
and power attacks that its steamjack can learn. To note an arm
upgrade or your steamjack, mark the upgrade box on the arm card
and the corresponding upgrade box on the steamjack card.
Just as wi th normal power attacks, you must roll a power die when
using an arms upgraded power attack.
us crdsAs an upgrade, you can ocus your steamjack toward
a speciic play style. To note this upgrade, choose a ocus card and
mark one of its three focused action boxes. Write your steamjacks
number on the ocus card.
While a focused action is marked, the steamjack gains its bonus effect
and can track the ocused action during games. To track the ocused
action, simply mark one o the boxes on the imprint bar whenever thesteamjack perorms the action.
A steamjack can have only one ocus card at a time. Beore the
start o each game, or each o your steamjacks, you can remove
the mark rom a ocused action to mark another ocused action on
its ocus card. Between games, you can remove a ocus card rom
your steamjack at no cost, reducing its value, but you cannot buy it
another ocus upgrade until ater the next game.
iprntsOnce all the boxes are marked on an imprint bar, you can
upgrade the steamjack with that imprint. To note an imprint upgrade,
mark the box on the ocus card next to the name o the imprint.
crw UpgrdsEach crew abilit y on a crew card has three levels
with a box next to it. To note a crew upgrade, choose a crew ability
and mark its irst unmarked box (rom top to bottom).
Extra Steamjacks & Arms
Beore the start o the league and at the end o each game, you
can purchase extra steamjacks and arms or your garage. The extra
steamjacks and arms you purchase or your garage must be o all the
same color as your team (red or blue) and must come rom a Grindbox.
To purchase an arm, spend 1 metal. To purchase a steamjack, spend 2metal. You can equip your purchased steamjacks with arms rom your
garage immediately.
Once you have more than ive steamjacks in your garage, you must
choose ive to begin an XGL game. At the start o the second period, you
can change that lineup to play out the rest o the game.
Remember, you cant upgrade a steamjack that sat
out the game you just inished!
After each XGL game, t he follow ing may b e done in any order:

damaged systems by spending 1 metal or each repair.

o your steamjacks by paying 1 metal or each
reconiguration.
