1. Stalemate
• A situation during a
conflict in which both sides are equally
powerful and neither one will give in.

7. Armistice
• A temporary peace
agreement to end
fighting (a cease-fire).
8. Lusitania
• British passenger
ship that was sunk off the
coast of Great Britain
killing several
Americans.
9. Isolationism
• A national policy of avoiding
involvement in world
affairs.
10. Reparation
• Payment by the losing
country in a war to the winner for
the damages caused by the war.
11. Treaty of Versailles
• A peace agreement
among 21 of the nations
who had fought in WWI;
signed in Versailles,
France.
12. Allied Powers
• Group of nations made up primarily of: – British Empire– France– Russia– Serbia– Belgium– United States
13. Central Powers
• Group of nations made up primarily of: – German empire– Austro-
Hungarian Empire
– Bulgaria– Ottoman Empire
14. League of Nations
• An association of nations to
preserve peace and resolve international
disputes proposed in Wilson’s 14
points.

• Created at the end of WWI,
