Farewell My application for Principal of Niagara Park Public School has been successful and therefore I will not be returning to Wyee Public School in 2014. It has been a pleasure to work with fantastic students who make each day special, parents who are welcoming, who provide support and friendship and staff who work together as a team to do great things for kids. My time at Wyee has been rewarding and it has been satisfying to be a part of the positive change that has taken place over the past two years. Now it is time for me to move on to a new challenge. Mrs Coleman will be relieving as Principal in Term 1 with the Principal’s position being advertised at the end of Term 1 and starting Term 2. Presentation Day Last Friday our students were recognised for their academic and sporting achievements. Congratulations to all students who received awards and con-gratulations also to our 2014 Captains; Shontel Mailey and Ella Naylor. I am sure they will lead the school with pride. Thank you to the families of Year 6 students leaving us, we appreciate the support you have provided to our school. Thankyou also to Dave and Mel from Wyee Mini Mart for their kind donation of $600 worth of books to our school library. Thanks to Mrs King-ham and Mrs Boyd for organising our Presentation Day and lastly thank you to our P&C for organising the delicious morning tea. We have excelled in many areas in 2013 and you will read more about the details of our achievements in the Annual School Report that will be available in April 2014.
Mega raffle The MEGA RAFFLE was drawn at Wyee Public School last Friday. We had heaps of excited students and one over-ly excited compere. We gave away over 135 prizes to some very happy children and also to some happy teachers and parents. Thank you to everyone who donated prizes and purchased raffle tickets, you helped raise over $1000 for the school P&C and made the day for many of our students. 120 Point Reward Day On Wednesday 18th December, students who have achieved their 120 points for the term will be eligible to par-ticipate in the water fun day to reward them for their consistent positive behaviour and work habits this term. The students may wear swimmers and board shorts to participate and can also bring water fire power. We will have water activities for the students to enjoy. The students are also required to bring a towel, sunscreen, hat and mufti clothes or school uniform they can change into. Those eligible have received an invitation to participate today if they have reached the 120 points required. Summer Reading is a Blast Reading is the key to success in education, but reading is not confined to school - what is learned at school needs to be used at home through reading for pleasure and interest. Reading with or to a child will help keep their reading skills alive and prevents the loss of these skills. In a similar holiday program, results showed that 96% of students who participated improved or maintained their reading levels over the holidays. These holidays we will be running the Summer Reading is a Blast Holiday Reading Pro-gram. You and your child are invited to enrol in Summer Reading is a Blast for these summer school holidays. There is no cost involved, just commitment to have fun reading during the holidays. Every participating student in years K-5 will receive a Summer Reading is a Blast reading card in the last week of school to record what they read over the holidays. The card also has tips for shared reading activities. Students are asked to read for 21 days during the summer holi-days. They record their holiday reading on the provided card and return it to school by Friday 14th February 2014. The students who com-plete the card will go into a draw for a selection of 40 book prizes. Choir Our school Choir sang at Village Central Wyong on Tuesday 10th December to celebrate Christmas. They also sang at the “Christmas in the Neighbourhood” event at the Halekulani Oval on Sunday. The choir did a fantastic job and thank you to Mrs Hou-ston for organising our involvement and thank you to the parents for assisting with transport. Holiday Maintenance Over the school holidays there will be tradesmen at the school, replacing the roof of the administration building, 2T classroom will be re-piered and the verandah replaced, also the amphitheatre CO-LA roof will be replaced with colourbond. This project is starting at the end of December and will be completed before school resumes on the 29th January 2014. Professional Development Days Wednesday 18th of December is our last day of classes. On Thursday and Friday our staff will participate in professional development activities which will include Sentral assessment, English syllabus and programming, KidsMatter and Mathematics syllabus professional learning.
