• 60 households badly damaged, 39 households destroyed

• 200 businesses (57%) on High Road damaged

• Over 95% of businesses reported loss of trade as a result of the disturbances – estimated daily loss £600 - £2k

• On average – 50% fall in trade, 20-30% fall by end of August

• Lack of confidence from businesses & residents

• 17,440 people claiming out of work benefits – the highest in London

• 2,410 young people aged under 25 claiming out of work benefits

• No qualifications – 18%; London – 10%

• Employment rate – 71%; London – 68%

• Median earnings - £627.50 per week; London - £610.20 per week

• High qualifications – 56%; London – 42%

New approach – Jobs For Haringey• Provision to support at

least 800 people into sustained employment

• Strong focus on young people

• Geographically focussed on Tottenham and other deprived wards

• Job creation a key element

Haringey Jobs Fund• Up to £4,000 subsidy to create

a job, lasting up to one year• Each job paid at upper NMW

rate (currently (£6.09 ph) with encouragement to pay LLW

• Free recruitment support from Jobs For Haringey providers

• In work support for up to 12 months

• Accredited training support, up to NVQ level 3, for each job created, provided by the College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London and the Haringey Adult Learning Service
