that remind them of springtime and new life.For Christians, the story

goes back to the Sunday after Jesus was put to death on the cross and his body

was laid in a tomb that had a huge stone blocking the

entrance.


This is the new life that Christians celebrate on Easter Sunday morning – but what has it got to do with Easter eggs?



For Christians, the gift of an egg has an extra, special meaning. From the outside, an egg looks dead – like a stone. But inside, it contains a new life. So the shell is a bit like Jesus’ tomb; when it breaks, it’s like the opening of the tomb and the beginning of a new life.



Ascension Day might seem like a sad day but it’s not. It’s a time to celebrate because Jesus had finished his work on Earth and had returned home to God, his Father in heaven. He had ascended to heaven.And, on that day long ago, his followers understood many of the things he had taught them.
