Soak

For heavily soiled and stained itemswith dried-on stains, or ones whichcan be bleached out, (e.g. blood, fats and oils, cocoa).

Duration of soak:2 hours.

Detergent dispensing when selectingthe soak option:

The amount to dispense will depend onwhich programme is to follow on fromthe soak process.

For programmes without a pre-wash:

– Add the total amount to compartmentj or directly into the drum on top ofthe laundry.

For programmes with a pre-wash:

– Add 1/4 of the detergent for the soakand pre-wash into compartment i,and 3/4 into compartment j for themain wash.

Pre-wash

For heavily soiled and stained items.

Water plus

The water level increases in allsections of the COTTONS / MINIMUMIRON and QUICK WASH 40°Cprogrammes.

– for particularly delicate fabrics.– if more water is required for

dispensing the detergent.– where a higher quality rinse is

required.

Short

For lightly soiled items.

This shortens the programme runningtime. In the COTTONS and MINIMUMIRON programmes only two rinses arecarried out with a higher water level.

J Adding detergent

It is important to dispense the correctamount, because... . .

. . . too little detergent results in:

– Laundry not being cleaned properlyand with time it may become greyand hard to the touch.

– Greasy particles clinging to thelaundry.

– Limescale deposits on the heaterelements.

. . . too much detergent results in:

– Excessive foam, which causes a lowlevel of agitation and poor wash, rinse and spin results.

– Higher water consumption becausean extra rinse is automaticallyactivated.

– A burden to the environment.

Add detergent for the pre-wash tocompartment i and to compartmentj for the main wash. If the capacity ofcompartment j is not sufficient (e.g.in water hardness area III), some of themain wash detergent can be added tocompartment i.

^ Pull out the detergent drawer andplace detergent in the compartmentsas follows:

i = Pre-wash(if selected, 1/4 of the totalamount recommended for theprogramme)

j = Main washincluding the Soak periodif selected

p = Fabric conditioner orliquid starch.

DetergentAll modern detergents produced forautomatic washing machines aresuitable, including liquid, compact(concentrated), tablets and specialapplication detergents.

Woollens and knitwear containing woolmixtures and hand-washable garmentsshould be washed using a detergentspecifically designed for washingwoollens.

Instructions for use and recommendedamounts for a full load are given on thedetergent packaging.

The right amount to dispense willdepend on the following:

– The soiling level of the laundry.

Lightly soiledNo visible dirt or stains. Possiblyslight body odour.

Normally soiledVisibly dirty and/or just a few slightstains.

Heavily soiledStains and soiling clearly visible.

– The quantity of laundry

– The water hardness level in the areaIf you do not know the hardness levelcontact your local water authoritywho will be able to advise you.

Fabric conditioners, texturisersand starchFabric conditioners make garments softand fluffy to handle and help preventstatic cling when tumble drying.

Texturisers are synthetic starchformulations, which stiffen items oflaundry, e.g. shirts, tablecloths and bedlinen.

Starch stiffens and gives body to itemsof laundry, e.g. shirts, tablecloths andbed linen.

^ Dispense according to the amountspecified on the packaging.

Tips on drying^ Before drying check the drying

symbol on the wash care label.

q Dry at normal temperature

r Dry at low temperature(select the Drying/low tempadditional option)

s Do not tumble dry

If there is no symbol, dry at your ownrisk applying the following principles:

– Cottons and minimum iron itemsshould be dried using theappropriate programme.

– Delicate fabrics, e.g. acrylics, shouldbe dried at a low temperature (selectthe Drying/low temp additionaloption).

The following fabrics should not betumble dried:

– Woollens and wool blendsthese fabrics tend to become mattedand shrink.

– Items filled with downthe fine fabric interior tends to shrink, depending on the quality involved.

– Pure linenshould only be machine dried ifspecified as suitable by themanufacturer on the wash care label,as the surface of the fabric mayotherwise tend to roughen.

Woven and loopknit materials (e.g.T-Shirts, knitted garments) tend toshrink to varying extents depending ontheir quality. Therefore: to preventfurther shrinkage do not over-dry thesetextiles. When purchasing thesegarments it is advisable to take theirshrinkage properties into account.

Starched laundry can be dried in thetumble dryer. To achieve the usualfinish, double the amount of starchshould be used.

Fabrics which crease easily should onlybe given a short period in the dryer.

Minimum iron shirts in 100% cotton maycrease during tumble drying dependingon the quality of the weave. Use a shortprogramme with a low setting. Inextreme cases do not tumble dry thesegarments, but dry them on a hanger.

Minimum iron fabrics tend to creasemore, the greater the load. This isparticulary the case with delicatefabrics. Reduce the load.

New dark coloured garments shouldbe dried separately from light colouredgarments to avoid the danger ofcolours running.

Installation surfaceA concrete floor is the most suitableinstallation surface. It is far less proneto vibration during the spin cycle thanwooden floorboards or a carpetedsurface.

Please note the following:

^ The machine must be level andsecurely positioned.

^ To avoid vibrations during spinningthe machine should not be installedon soft floor coverings.

If installing on a wooden joist floor:

^ We recommend the use of a plywoodbase at least 59x52x3 cm. The baseshould span several joists and bebolted to the joists and not only to thefloorboards. Check for pipes andcables beforehand!

The most stable part of the floor isusually in the corner.

,If the machine is installed on araised plinth, it has to be securedagainst slippage during spin usingretaining clips (available from theMiele Spare Parts Dept). Otherwisethere is the danger of the machinemoving about.

InstallationLift the machine from its packagingbase and move it to its site. Please notethe following:

^ Do not lift the machine by the drumdoor.

,Ensure that the machine feet andthe floor area are dry to prevent themachine from slipping during thespin cycle.

The Miele Waterproof systemThe Miele Waterproof system protectsthe washing machine from waterdamage.

The system consists of three maincomponents:

1) the inlet hose

2) the electronic unit and the washingmachine housing

3) the drain hose

1) Inlet hose

– The inlet hose is fitted with anadditional electrical safety valvewhich works like an automaticstopcock and is housed in the inlethose connection box.

– It is pressure proof to between 70and 100 bar.

– The inlet hose has a protectivesleeve.

Any leaking water from the inlet hoseis fed into the sump through thisprotective sleeve. A float switches offthe safety valve, preventing any morewater from flowing into the machineand water in the suds container ispumped away.

2) Electronic unit and washingmachine housing

– Sump

Any leaking water is collected in asump in the base of the appliance. Afloat switches off the safety valves, preventing any more water fromflowing into the machine and water inthe suds container is pumped away.

– Overflow protection

This prevents the washing machinetaking in too much water. If the waterlevel exceeds a certain level, thedrain pump switches in and pumpsthe excess water away.

3) Drain hose

The drain hose is protected by aventilation system which prevents thewashing machine from beingemptied completely.
