WelcomeLast year we announced a major evolution of our vision and mission, and launched our new brand as The Leadership Investment. For over 17 years we have successfully created a pipeline of successful women leaders across our business community. We are proud of our legacy while we recognize the necessity to do more. Bottom-line, we need more businesses experiencing the power of shared leadership. Colorado has such a progressive image, but we lag nationally and globally in gender diversified leadership teams across all business sectors. We have the desire to change these statistics meaningfully, not just incrementally. Today, we will showcase Colorado in a very positive light

through our nationally and globally known local speakers, Success Award finalists and winners, and executive panelists! We have brought the best and brightest to help all of us Get Leadership Fit.

More than a theme for today, we are advancing a mindset shift. Individuals and organizations need to be Leadership Fit for the journey of achieving sustainable economic prosperity and positive organizational health. I’m thrilled to be working side-by-side with our member companies, our volunteers, our board, and our staff to make these mindset and programmatic changes within The Leadership Investment. It is this community of support that will continually challenge us to break barriers and push harder for relevant leadership education, effective mentoring and coaching, and unparalleled networking.

The Women’s Success Forum is our signature event, bringing together all of the very best that we strive for at The Leadership Investment. It takes an amazing level of support and commitment to bring this event to life. For nearly a year, a steering committee made up of volunteers from our corporate membership base and our internal team have planned this event. We are extremely grateful for this team’s work, the participation of corporate members, and our generous sponsors and donors.

We invite you to spend today networking among this impressive group of leaders as well as re-connecting with your mind, body and soul as you choose the strategies to Get Leadership Fit for yourself and your organizations. You are truly our greatest asset today and tomorrow, and we will make meaningful changes with your support and leadership.

Welcome to the 2014 Women’s Success Forum!

Leadership Fitness: Changing the Prescription for Stamina, Stability and Significance

Today’s world calls for a shift in leadership, away from the hard-driving, high

stress, and multi-tasking styles to one that values emotional intelligence, adaptability, body wisdom and compassion. These are sustainable practices that enable 21st century leaders to truly be productive, creative and happy. We’ve had it all wrong: It’s not your bank

accounts, titles or lack of access that’s holding you back, it’s your health!

Gaye will focus on three areas that can benefit leaders:• How to Increase Body Wisdom and improve your health

• 5 Activation Steps for Well-Being practice, using mind, body and spirit

• Using the dynamics of Behavior Change to increase performance for you and those you lead

Let’s take a journey through the ages with an eye toward improving our health and wellness.

Gaye Woods has over 16 years of experience as both an entrepreneur and corporate employee. Her skills include organizational develop-ment, recruiting, executive coaching, and academic research. She has worked extensively with start-up/growth companies, guiding mergers and acquisitions, and helping established companies implement recruiting and retention best practices. In addition to her corporate experience, her work as a research faculty member with the University of Colorado Cancer Center, and as owner of Colo-rado Fitness and Wellness, a health company focused on reducing obesity, have deepened her passion for wellness. Tying prevention and wellness to business operation objectives as it relates to health policy, employee wellness and competitive strategy are at the heart of her skill attributes. She is a graduate of the Kellogg School of Management – Northwestern University.

Currently, she blends the best of her experiences as the Group Director Community Health Improvement at Centura Health in Denver.

Self-Reliant Leadership: Developing Self-Reliance to Create Powerful Futures

Are you over-managing and under-leading? What is your tolerance

for adversity and uncertainty? How do you guide people to the source of their own power? How can you focus your energy to produce the greatest impact?

A former U.S. Army Special Forces soldier and successful business executive, Jan knows the value of overcoming

challenges to strengthen your resilience to lead more effectively. Through the power of introspection, and embracing adversity as a crucible, you too can enhance the focus, resourcefulness and collaboration of your team.

Jan uses the power of story to provide an overview of self-reliant leadership principles to be a more courageous, humble, and disciplined leader. Jan helps leaders become more self reliant through a confluence of Sparta’s discipline, Socrates’ self-awareness, Aristotle’s courage, Emerson’s self-reliance, and Thoreau’s reflective seclusion.

Jan Rutherford entered the U.S. Army at age 17, and spent six years in Special Forces as a medic and “A” team executive officer, and three years as a military intelligence officer. He is the founder of Self-Reliant Leadership, LLC, focused on helping leaders develop self-reliance to create powerful futures through keynote speeches, workshops, wilderness expeditions, and coaching. Jan has over 25 years of business experience in executive roles such as marketing, business development, sales, training, product management, and CEO. He is the author of The Littlest Green Beret: On Self-Reliant Leadership, whose proceeds go to foundations that benefit veterans and their families. He is also a senior instructor at the University of Colorado Denver Business School where he teaches leadership in the U.S. and Ireland.

Joe JulianoPresident & CEO, IQNavigator

“Joe is a strong believer in doing the right thing. He will search for the right people and the right leadership for executive positions with the best person for the job – no matter their gender. At the top of his “to do” list is to refocus the company as a procurement technology leader by doing the right thing, and that just comes naturally for Joe.”

– Traci Kellner SVP, Human Resources, IQNavigator

Joe’s leadership at IQNavigator has created both opportunities and role models for advancement within the

company. The company, under Joe’s tutelage, has grown in gender diversity, illustrated by its 40 percent female staff and 53 percent of managers.

Joe joined IQNavigator as president and CEO in 2013 and has made several internal moves, including refocusing the company as a pure technology play, selling off its managed service division and reforming the entire executive team to grow the company. He joined the 13-year-old company and set to work to change its course, and brought hundreds of his employees, customers and partners on board with his vision.

In an industry dominated by men, Joe has recruited top female leaders in technology. These female leaders chose IQNavigator over other companies because they saw real opportunities to innovate and impact the future of the company by empowering a diverse team to implement far-reaching measures that evolve the IQNavigator technology.

As President and CEO of IQNavigator, Joe is responsible for capitalizing on IQNavigator’s industry leading position to deliver differen-tiated value to customers. He brings over 25 years of technology experience, SaaS, and procurement and supply chain solutions.

“Alain is a tireless champion for women executives. In addition to his consistent and focused engagement with The Leadership Investment, he is actively involved with Girls, Inc, referees youth soccer, and is an active networker for and on behalf of women in the workplace.”

– Kurt Wolf, Managing Partner, enVision Business Consulting

At enVision, Alain assists clients in driving business transformation and achieving higher performance. He is a native of

France and understands what being an “outsider” feels like, as many women can often feel, especially in male-dominated industries and executive positions. He brings a unique perspective, sound advice and empathy to women on boards and in managerial roles that help achieve that higher performance. He understands from a multi-cultural perspective what it means to sacrifice in order to create a life you want.

He co-chaired the Annual Breakfast committee, has been a four-year mentor at the Mentor’s Walk, and currently co-chairs the Membership Committee, all for The Leadership Investment. He’s passionate about The Leadership Investment and its vision as well as a strong proponent of women and their strength in the workplace.

Alain spends his free time with his wife, Kelly, and their two children. He loves movies, swimming and yoga, and is involved with youth soccer.

“He is a leader with a vision and willingness to take risks. Through piloting diversity and inclusion training for his entire management staff, and championing internal and external mentoring programs for all employees, including women and people of color, Steve brings a commitment to excellence.”

– Maria Arias Vice President of Diversity, Comcast

Steve is a leader who believes in and supports women and others in Comcast and the broader community. He sets

high standards for the company, the West Division and himself because he wants to be the best he can be. He is a strong mentor, sharing his deep passion for the develop-ment and training of his 22,000 employees at all levels of business.

He’s launched three successful, flagship leadership programs:

1. The Executive Development Series – Supportive leadership development

2. L2L – Front-line employee leadership

3. Foundations of Organizational Leadership (FOL) – Ten-month program to develop personal improvement, process improvement, and performance improvement.

Steve is the 2014 recipient of the National Action Network’s Triumph Award, and recently named “Mentor of the Year” by the Women in Cable and Telecommunications Rocky Mountain Chapter.

He serves on the Board of the Comcast Foundation, COMPAC, WICT Northern CA, and the Denver Scholarship Foundation. He’s a member of the Executive Leadership Council and Colorado Forum.

As one of the employee resource groups at Schwab, the Women’s Interactive Network at Schwab (WINS) is dedicated to helping women employees advance their careers, demonstrate their leadership capabilities, and create outreach programs that help other women become more financially literate.

Charles Schwab hosted more than 400 events during the Financial Life Planning for Women Month in May 2012 and 2013, reaching more than 10,000 attendees. In 2014, the initiative earned recognition as a top “model practice” among San Francisco Bay Area companies when it showcased during the San Francisco Department on the Status of Women’s Gender Equality Principles Challenge.

The Charles Schwab Foundation’s “Money Matters: Make It Count” program, in partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America, teaches teens basic money management skills to help them save, spend and invest wisely.

Schwab leaders host site visits for young students in order to expose them to Schwab’s mission, value and culture as well as communicate opportunities they provide in the financial services industry. They also host a professional development series: “Day in the Life.”

This series offers networking opportunities with women role models to help cultivate career aspirations and provide informal mentoring.

IMA’s mission is to protect assets and make a difference, starting with its employees. The company wants to ensure that it’s providing the best work environment possible and have the employees enjoy coming to work in an energetic atmosphere that helps them put their best foot forward every day.

IMA is 100 percent employee owned and privately held. It’s known to promote qualified women from within. In the Production side/sales department their top producer is a woman; she’s focused on the construction industry. Both company-wide and in the Denver office, IMA employee base is over half women, with the Denver office’s upper-level managers and vice presidents made up largely of women.

The IMA foundation represents the employees’ passions; therefore, the decisions about donations and participation come from them. IMA involves itself in their five-city region for all donations and participation.

Some of the varied and instrumental community work that the IMA employees are involved in throughout the year: Habitat for Humanity, “I Make A Difference Day,” Colorado I Have a Dream, The Women’s Foundation of Colorado, The Leadership Investment and The Denver Public School Foundation – school partner program. IMA employees, for the last seven years, go every week to tutor K-8 school children for two hours a week for the whole school year. IMA’s employees and their Foundation live their mission of putting their best foot forward.

Purpose statement: To manifest our love and talent by crafting our customers’ favorite brands and proving business can be a force for good.

Jeff Lebesch and his wife Kim Jordon started their company in – where else? – their basement in Fort Collins, Colorado. They took it commercial in 1991, and by 2012 the Employee Stock Ownership Program purchased the balance of company shares, making it 100 percent employee owned. They also have the practice of open-book management: a policy of fiscal transparency throughout the company that encourages a community of trust and mutual responsibility.

Today, New Belgium’s CEO and co-founder is Kim Jordan, and in September Christine Perich became the President. She reports directly to Kim Jordan and the New Belgium Board of Directors. The current New Belgium Director of Finance and Accounting, Danielle McLarnon, moves into Christine’s old position of Chief Financial Officer. This puts three women at the top of the New Belgium organizational chart.

New Belgium Brewing, makers of Fat Tire Amber Ale and a host of Belgian-inspired beers, is recognized as one of Outside Magazine’s Best Places to Work, and one of The Wall Street Journal’s Best Small Businesses.

“Because of the opportunity that Johns Manville gave Zeb as a woman in business, she has ‘paid it forward’ by mentoring other female employees. A colleague of hers approached me saying, ‘I could see myself working for her someday,’ which is quite a compliment from a female co-worker who had a higher job level.”

– Brandi Duncan, HR Manager, Johns Manville

During Zeb’s three-year tenure at Johns Manville, she has faced a flood of projects and competing priorities

with the highest visibility. She brought the success rate up from 15 percent to 70 percent yielding several million dollars in cost savings. JM recognized her for her contributions for product improvements, development, engineering excellence and innovations.

The combination of Zeb’s technical, business and personal acumen, and passion to help others propels her work both at JM and in her community.
