Falling in Love with America
“The attacks on September 11th were
intended to break our spirit. Instead we
have emerged stronger and more
unified. We feel renewed devotion to the
principles of political, economic and
religious freedom, the rule of law and
respect of human life. We are more
determined to live out lives in freedom.” -
Rudolph W. Giuliani
Content Overview
Life Before September 11th.September 11, 2001Life after September 11th. How that day made me a different person,
and shaped many of the views that I have today. Talking about September 11th to other
people.People’s reaction to my story and my
reaction to them.
Before …
I didn’t really know how amazing
I had it.
Living in America was not
anything special.
I didn’t not have any personal
connections to the military.
I did not fully understand the
sacrifices that the men and
women in the United States
Armed Forces.
After….
Troops in the United States
Armed Forces have become
my heroes. What they do I will
never be able to repay. I wear
a braclet, everyday to remind
myself just how lucky I am.
Others and September 11th.
This is a cartoon that my anatomy teacher had in her power point that she showed to the class on September 11th.
It reminded me just how easy people forget about that day.
I stormed out of class and called my mom.She was just as outraged as me, writing the teacher an email.
My professor never responded to the email.
I don’t even believe that my professor realized what she was saying and how offensive it was.
My Brother
Having my brother in the Navy has shown me first hand just how much of a sacrifice members of the armed forces make.
Whenever people talk about the military in a disrespect manner, it makes me extremely upset.
I have to remind myself that not everyone has the change to see first hand how much the armed forces do for us.
I still don’t think that anyone should ever talk about our troops in any sort of derogatory way.
Talking About It…
That day is not really a subject that is talked about, but once a year. The issues that came out of that day, are ones that are constantly in the
news. My family and I talk about the issues often, getting into debates. I love talking about it with my friends and family. It reminds me of the
sacrifice our soldiers make.
How Others React… If people were not immediately effected by it, telling them my story
doesn’t really get a strong reaction.
People are usually shocked by how important that day was.
Most people just remember it as a normal day.
When I talk about issues that came out of that day, such as the Iraq
war, our soldiers or politics, I get a much stronger reaction.
My Reaction & What I Would
Change
I always have a very strong reaction. Having a brother in the military has lowered by
patience for disrespect for America and our troops. I can’t say I would change anything. Even though, I yell and can get quite angry, disrespect
for our soldiers and America is something I find unacceptable.
I wish I could put my passion into a more productive rhetorical manner.
Closing
“Give thanks to those who
defend democracy, for
they bear the gift of liberty
and pay the price of
freedom.”
