The module 2 grades have been
posted, and I’ve emailed out grade
sheets.
All in all, everyone did a great job.
The only concern I had is that at
times there wasn’t as much
introspection by some into how the
code on your pages worked. That’s
okay, though. We’ll be hitting that as
we move forward.

hours I will be posting the most
complete answers to each of the
questions I asked last class to my
Tumblr for you to take a look at
before next class.
To start class on Thursday, we’ll
discuss the responses and address
any questions you have.

If you’ve looked close at the Module 1
assignment, you have no doubt
noticed that your final “deliverable” for
the module is a web page.
At this point, you get to choose your
“level of difficulty” and begin to think
for the first time about how you can
style and structure a page.
I am going to show you three ways
you could put your Module 1 online.
There are others, but these should
offer you a number of opportunities.

Hopefully you at least vaguely
remember Weebly. We looked at it
on our first day.

Here are the pros of Weebly:
1) It’s pretty simple (as I will show
you)
2) It’s easy enough to customize
3) You press publish and it is up
The Cons:
1) It’s not all that dynamic (visually).
The default templates are very
rudimentary
2) It doesn’t teach you all that much
about
3) Ethos issues: people will know it’s
a Weebly page
Let’s take a look at how it works!

Then, of course, there’s Tumblr. I
hope you know the format here,
because you’ve been using it in
class.

Here are the pros of Tumblr:
1) You know how to use it
2) It’s easy enough to customize, and the
themes (if you choose carefully) look
better than Weebly
3) It, too, is easy to publish
The Cons:
1) You will have to play around with how
to organize (I’ll show you some things)
2) People will know you’ve chosen a blog
as a CMS
3) You’d have to choose to do custom
work to do much coding here.

Dreamweaver is the industry
standard in web design. It can be a
little bit scary, but it’s never too soon
to take a shot at using it.

Here are the pros of Dreamweaver:
1) It’s a start to using a genuine coding
tool
2) Limitless potential for customization
The Cons:
1) It might be a terrible headache starting
out
2) You will need to find hosting (such as
your AFS space)
3) There’s no way I can teach you
enough of how to use it for this module

For Module 1, I will not be actively
grading you on how your pages
look. I will comment, of course, but
what I want you to do is focus on
presenting your information and
getting your feet wet with coding.
You should, as a team, pick the
option that seems best suited for
you.

of class talking about which of these
options is going to work best for you and
sort-of committing to one.
Before you leave, email me letting me
know what the two of you plan to use (just
so I can get a sense of what sort of
support you might need). You can then
work for the rest of class.

I have graded the first 3 weeks of
Tumblrs. I will grade week 4 tonight.
The posts that are there, which I
graded, are good unless I told you
to “step your game up.”
Some of you aren’t doing all your
posts, though, and if that was the
case for the first 3 weeks, you have
now lost points for that. Remember–
3 posts a week.
