What is wound?

• According to the Wikipedia,wound is are :• an injury to living tissue caused by a cut, blow, or other

impact, typically one in which the skin is cut or broken.

• Wound occurs because of many factors .

Classification Of Wound

• Wound divided into 2 classification• Open Wound

• Closed Wound

Open Wound• is an injury involving an external or internal break in body

tissue, usually involving the skin• caused by a clean, sharp-edged object such as a knife, razor,

or glass splinter.• Classified into 7:

• Incision• Laceration• Abration• Avulsion• Ulceration• Puncture• Penetrating

Incision

A wound characterized by a clean cut, as by a sharp instrument.

An incision: a small cut in a finger.

Laceration wound

Cut or wounded in a jagged manner.

Abrasion wound

an abrasion is a wound caused by superficial damage to the skin, no deeper than the epidermis.

Avulsion wound

an avulsion is an injury in which a body structure is forcibly detached from its normal point of insertion by either trauma or surgery

Ulceration wound

An ulcer is a sore on the skin or a mucous membrane, accompanied by the disintegration of tissue. Ulcers can result in complete loss of the epidermis and often portions of the dermis and even subcutaneous fat.

Penetrating wound

is an injury that occurs when an object pierces the skin and enters a tissue of the body, creating an open wound

Acute penetrating trauma from a close-range shotgun blast injury to knee. Birdshot pellets are visible in the wound, within the shattered patella. The powder wad from the shotgun shell has been extracted from the wound, and is visible at the upper right of the image.

Closed Wound• the skin is intact and the underlying tissue is

not directly exposed to the outside world• Closed wounds are usually caused by direct

blunt trauma sustained when falling down or in motor vehicle accidents.

• Divided into 3 :• Contusion• Hematoma• Sprain

Contusion

• A bruise, or contusion, is caused when blood vessels are damaged or broken as the result of a blow to the skin (be it bumping against something or hitting yourself with a hammer).

Hematoma

hematoma is a collection of blood outside of a blood vessel. It occurs because the wall of a blood vessel wall, artery, vein or capillary, has been damaged and blood has leaked into tissues where it does not belong.

Sprain

A sprain, more commonly known as torn ligament, is damage to one or more ligaments in a joint, often caused by trauma or the joint being taken beyond its functional range of motion.
