Bagels are so versatile, you can have them at any meal.
Be it Breakfast, Lunch, Snack or Dinner, they are great
with cheese, sweet jams or pickled salmon. They are the
quick fix when you are slightly peckish but can't be
bothered to cook. Slice in two, in the toaster and add
whatever your fridge has on offer. For many years they
were a staple part of my diet and since living in Switzerland have been dearly missed. You
might than understand my overwhelmingly joy at discovering that Migros has recently
started to sell them. Since this miraculous discovery, breakfast mainly consists of a Bagel
and cream cheese. As good things in our supermarkets only tend to last as long as there is
enough demand, I spread the world to all bagel lovers out there.. Check your local Migros in
the Packed bread section, next to where the Pitas are stocked, Bagels are not far. Enjoy

LIBRARY NEWS Kadi Heinloo
Hello everyone, and wel-come back for the new term and loads of new fun things at the club. I hope you all had a nice summer. I, per-sonally, was all set up with a bunch of books I've been meaning to read for ages, and then the most uncharac-teristic Estonian summer happened up north – 2 weeks of sunshine with al-most no rain, and 30 de-grees outside. So no rainy
weather books for me, but I did go through a pile of 'beach-reads' at the seaside.
The single bad weather days I managed to catch here in Switzerland were spent lifting, dragging, pushing, piling, organizing and reor-ganizing the bookshelves in the library. We got several boxes of donations to place, for which I am very grateful to our kind contributors, even if they do give me quite a headache, trying to solve the space problem.
All our adult fiction books are now nicely and neatly categorized into “easy reading”, “action”, “serious literature” and “literary non-fiction”, all marked with an appropriate color sticker. The lack of space necessitated that quite a few books be thrown out, which means that our take-away boxes are full to the brim. Even if I keep diligently dragging home half of the discards (or half of my workplace, as my husband says), there are still plenty of books waiting to be read one last time.
We have a lot of exciting new books for young adults. So many, in fact, that I needed two extra shelves for them. I'm sure you can find some-thing for your teenagers from the selection to keep them with, or bring them back to, books and reading. We'll continue with Louise Renni-son's Georgia Nicholson diaries, hilarious in-sight into a 14-year-old girl's view of the world - for both for you & your daughter to reminisce and compare. Teenage girls probably have not yet had enough of brooding handsome vam-pires, so if your daughter liked the Twilight
saga, try the “Vampire Diaries” on her. And if your teenager is not big on vampires, there are other fantastic creatures, be they the Greek gods in the modern world in Rick Riordan's books, the immortal alchemist Nicholas Flamel in Michael Scott's stories, the cruel kill-or-be-killed world in Suzanne Collins's “Hunger Games”, the dragons in “Eragon”, or the ad-venturous weasels from Welkin by Garry Kil-
worth.
A whole pile of new DVDs sit at the corner of my desk, which includes cartoons (e.g., Dora the Explorer), computer animations (Over the Hedge, G-Force), romantic comedies (The Ugly Truth), drama (My Sister's Keeper), and adventure (Journey to the Centre of the
Earth), just to name a few.
As new development for all you book lovers, we are going to put up notices of literary events in the area; for instance when the Orell Füssli English Bookshop arrange meetings with au-thors and story times for children. Keep your
eye out for the posters!
We are hopefully able to continue with our own story time as soon as we're all settled in and the hectic term start has passed. We will keep doing the book/DVD of the week section – your ideas and suggestions are very welcome, just like your advice on new purchases.
To finish off, I would like to repeat my plea from the early summer: as several of the volunteers were unable to continue working in the library this term, we are in need of helping hands. In case you have an hour of your valuable time to donate for the common good, please get in con-tact with me or any of the volunteers in the li-brary, it would be greatly appreciated.
Wishing you all enjoyable moments with books and films!

Business UpdateBusiness Update Angela WatsonAngela Watson
I can‟t believe how fast this summer flew by
– it certainly helped being away in the UK
for a few weeks of it and our family decided
that we would also visit parts of Switzerland
we still hadn‟t managed to explore – and we
still didn‟t see the Matterhorn, but at least
Gruyere‟s Castle and Cheese factory (well
worth the visit) has been crossed off the
list.
No sooner have you started enjoying the new
and regular courses at the WAC again that
I‟m asking for your help and support in
running them. For those of you who are new
to the club and those who are not so new but
have kind of “forgotten” how it all works
here – WE ARE ALL VOLUNTEERS – which
means that we need every member‟s
participation in ensuring that all the courses,
classes, parties and events run smoothly. If
you come only to the playgroups, consider
helping the leader who does the same thing
week in/out so that you have somewhere to
come and chat to another English speaking
human that isn‟t your spouse. Even if you
only come for one course and have
begrudgingly become a member as it‟s half
the price a non-member pays, then please
don‟t avoid eye contact with us, as there‟s
always something small you can do (hand out
flyers, empty dishwasher, cure cancer etc.).
We want you to enjoy your course and your
membership privileges, but give a little back
to us too. For those of you daring to be
more bold and brave we always have the
challenge of PARENT REPRESENTATIVE
which we need for every class and
course...honestly it probably the easiest way
to say “I do my bit for the WAC” and
actually mean it...so “Just Do It” cos “We‟re
worth it”!
Enough of the shameless advertising and
lecturing – onto the real news...
FREE BEER!! That got your attention right?
Well there‟s a catch – of course there‟s
always a catch – it will be free after you
learn how to brew it yourself! Members
over 18 years old are welcome to come and
learn how to make your own moonshine on
Tuesday 28th September from 7-10.15pm.
There‟s limited space available so make sure
you sign up as soon as possible to ensure
your tankard never runs dry again.
Now before you develop too much of a beer
belly, how about coming to an open day and
join us ladies with the guts to shimmy and
shake the hangovers of pregnancy tummies?
Page 17
On Monday the 20th September Anisa and
the belly dancing posse will show you that we
haven‟t just been knocking back the vino on
Monday evenings and you would be welcome
to try out a few twists and turns with us
from 6.30pm onwards.
If that wasn‟t enough free stuff then how
about a free Body Art trial class on the 1st
September 9-10am – there‟s a lot of interest
in this one and the sign-
up sheet is looking
pretty healthy even if
t h e p a r t i c i p a n t s
aren‟t....yet.
My kids are starting to look like extras from
“Step Up” with their participation in our new
Hip Hop classes
on Monday afternoons (OK maybe not quite
that yet but it‟s a start) – there are still a
few spaces left if over 5‟s in your family
would like to learn something a bit more up-
to-date than the Macarena.
Or how about cooking up a treat in the
kitchen on a monthly basis? Anouk Kummer is
kindly co-ordinating this new kids club and
not only will it mean weekend affordable
childcare, but also the opportunity to develop
the next Jamie Oliver in your own home.
Help Anouk make it happen by being a Head
Chef one of the dates proposed.
Well it‟s time for me to be induced (large
G&T should do it) and put this baby to bed.
„Till next month folks.

– all you need to know to enjoy your winter here in
Switzerland
Or a private group session in your home with a bunch of friends
I recently organised an evening with my Ready…Steady…Zurich! clients. We went on a guided bike tour of Zurich City on a (fortunately) very sunny evening in June. We met our guide at Zurich Main Station where we picked up some free city bike rentals. We then set off on a 3-hour ride around parts of Zurich I never knew existed, stopping off at various points of interest along the way. The small company which organises these guided bike tours can be found at http://zurichbybike.ch.
(photo from website: www.zurichbybike.ch)
If you would just like to discover Zurich by city bike without the guide, you can simply turn up at designated areas in Zurich and take a bike for free as long as you leave them a deposit of Fr. 20 and valid ID. A fantastic way to show your visitors around Zurich!
