WInfoNet Overview

• History– Originally called the Material Release

System (MRS)– Written in Server Side JavaScript (SSJS) to

run on Netscape Enterprise Server (NES)– Functionality, management, and user-

capacity hit a wall. – Needed the new architecture installed to

address issues– WInfoNet project: re-platform the MRS

application on the new architecture

WInfoNet Overview

• The Worthington Information Network (WInfoNet) is a Customer Self-Service Application that our customers access over the Internet to perform the following actions:– View and release available material at

Worthington.– Create new order requests.– Review material release requests (i.e., requests

for shipment).– View chemical and mechanical properties of

material.– Enable Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) by

updating inventory consumed by customer.

WInfoNet Benefits• Added functionality, improved

application response-times, and added more customers.

• Software written to industry standards (J2EE) instead of proprietary language

• Application redesigned and implemented on scalable architecture

• Developed reusable software components for use in other projects

• Positions WII for improved B2B connectivity

Page 20: Worthington Industries WInfoNet Worthington Information Network February 25, 2003.

WInfoNet Future Plans

• Implement end-user authentication through LDAP instead of local database

• More legacy integration with IBM MQ Series middleware– Currently using FTP to send data from the

mainframe to WInfoNet
