HEADTEACHER UPDATE It has been an exciting yet difficult week in school. It has been lovely to have so many classes out and about on school trips and there is a little write-up about each trip below. But it has also been very sad as we have had to close two class bubbles due to children testing positive for coronavirus. This is a horrible way for the children to end what has already been a difficult school year for everyone. In light of the rapidly increasing numbers locally and having to close bubbles in school we have reviewed what should and should not go ahead in the last week of term so that we can make sure that children are well and not having to self- isolate for periods of the summer holidays. A letter with more detailed information is attached with the newsletter. DRUSILLAS Class Mozart had a wonderful visit to Drusillas, the weather was perfect, and the children behaved brilliantly. The children consolidated their learning with a mini-beast workshop where they met hissing cockroaches, giant African Land Snails and millipedes. The children experienced what it was like to see through the eyes of a fly and learned about spiders shedding their skins. The children summoned their courage and even got to stroke a gerbil from the dessert and a Bearded Dragon. It was an exciting moment as the level crossing closed and the bell rang to signify that the train was arriving to take us on a tour of the zoo. The children remembered the rules they wrote in class on Tuesday, and sat beautifully as they chugged past the Lemurs and “absolutely massive” camels who came out to see us. After a picnic lunch in the sunshine and a quick climb around on the explorers playground to let off some energy, the children walked around the zoo and saw lots of wonderful animals from owls and penguins to parrots and wallabies. What a wonderful day we had at Drusillas! HASTINGS SEAFRONT Class Lowry had a fantastic visit to Hastings Beach. We explored the fishing boats, huts, beach and had a very informative talk from a Lifeboat crew member. The children listened attentively and asked some interesting questions. We then had fun in the play park area before walking to the pier and entertaining everyone by singing, 'Oh I do like to be beside the seaside'. A wonderful day linking in with our 'Land Ahoy' topic. HEVER CASTLE TRIP Class Da Vinci had a brilliant trip to Hever castle and its grounds this week. The children had a guided tour of the Italian gardens and Roman statues, a workshop making Roman aqueducts and a tour around the castle. The weather was perfect and so were the children representing our school brilliantly. They also showed their great knowledge of the Roman period by answering so many questions with lots of detail. The castle staff were very impressed. Well done Class Da Vinci! Wishing everyone a safe and happy weekend! WORSHIP THEME - What Can We Learn from Football? This week in worship we reflected on England reaching the final of the European Cup and the disappointment felt by the team and the nation at their defeat in the final. I wanted the children to focus on the positives and the lessons that we could learn from how the team had conducted themselves and played in the tournament Our thoughts centred around the passion and determination the team had shown. Their commitment to training, to improvement and to pushing themselves and showing great courage and the importance of strong leadership and thinking of the team and not just yourself. The children then reflected in class on how they could use these skills to help them be the best learner at school and in trying to fulfil their future ambitions.
