Worship at First Church of the Brethren September 2017 In Deep Gratitude It’s Monday morning, August 21, 2017, and I am still trying to gather all my thoughts and feelings from two years of ministry, but especially attempting to take in all that happened yesterday. What an amazing day! I was filled with gratitude for the opportunity to worship together. Sharing bread and cup communion at the conclusion of worship fulfilled a joy for me and I hope for you as well, in the journey that we have shared together in Christ Jesus. For I believe that gathering at the table of the Lord truly brings a sense of the past, present and future into our midst that goes beyond even the words that we share. Following worship there were so many warm expressions of gratitude and well wishes. What a meaningful moment. Then we gathered in the fellowship hall for an abundant meal. The food was so good, all the way from the barbeque sandwiches to the many pot luck dishes that graced the table. Then we enjoyed a beautiful marble dessert cake, decorated by Mindy Wagner, that was so tasty and moist. I was almost at a loss for words when a bounty of gifts was shared. Thank you to all for your expressions of care and love! I must say that when it was announced that the stones on the table could be signed and would then be given to us, I wondered where we would put them. But, then a wise person in the congregation said to me that the stones could be a part of a prayer garden in your landscaping. What a beautiful idea! So, Christy and I have already talked about a way to incorporate them into our back yard garden. One final note! On the cake, you may have noticed a scripture was listed. It is one of my very favorite scriptures, Philippians 4:4-5. It says, “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near.” So many times in my journey with you in ministry, I experienced the nearness of the Lord. Thank you for blessing my life these last two years! On behalf of my wife, Christy, she would also wish to share her thanksgiving for your hospitality and love. In Deep Gratitude
It’s Monday morning, August 21, 2017, and I am still trying to gather all my thoughts and feelings from two years of
ministry, but especially attempting to take in all that happened yesterday. What an amazing day! I was filled with
gratitude for the opportunity to worship together. Sharing bread and cup communion at the conclusion of worship
fulfilled a joy for me and I hope for you as well, in the journey that we have shared together in Christ Jesus. For I believe
that gathering at the table of the Lord truly brings a sense of the past, present and future into our midst that goes
beyond even the words that we share. Following worship there were so many warm expressions of gratitude and well
wishes. What a meaningful moment. Then we gathered in the fellowship hall for an abundant meal. The food was so
good, all the way from the barbeque sandwiches to the many pot luck dishes that graced the table. Then we enjoyed a
beautiful marble dessert cake, decorated by Mindy Wagner, that was so tasty and moist. I was almost at a loss for words
when a bounty of gifts was shared. Thank you to all for your expressions of care and love! I must say that when it was
announced that the stones on the table could be signed and would then be given to us, I wondered where we would put
them. But, then a wise person in the congregation said to me that the stones could be a part of a prayer garden in your

Do something God wants our work to be meaningful and satisfying. No matter what we do, it should provide a reason to get up each day and use the talents God has given us. As Benjamin Franklin said, “The man who achieves makes many mistakes, but he never makes the biggest mistake of all: doing nothing.”
If you can’t pay cash in total for “it” you can’t afford “it.”
Whatever “it” is. – Dave Ramsey

Chelsey Dick thanks the congregation for continued support, love and prayers as she prepared for and attended a work camp in Portland, Oregon, in late July. She feels so blessed that she and her family are a part of such a caring congregation. How truly grateful I am to have friends like you at 'First Church'. The love and support that was given in various ways during my loss of my sister has been very much appreciated. "Thank You" for your acts of kindness. Darlene Wyland I would like to thank Pastor Dale and Mitch & Bethann Frederick for their visit and to my church family for their prayers and calls during my recent stay at Nason Hospital. I am on the mend and appreciate continued prayers. – Connie Fluke Dan and Carol Emerick would like to thank everyone for the wonderful cards and the delicious and blessed meals that were brought in as she is recovering from shoulder surgery. Thank you, Mindy Wagner, for all your work on making our VBS “Pirates for God” a success, to everyone who donated items, those who kept VBS in their prayers, brought children, helped teach, helped in doing what needed to be done. THANK YOU! Let’s continue storing heavenly treasures! We want to thank our church family for the cards, prayers, and words of encouragement with the recent passing of Dave’s father Nevin Albright. – Dave, Lynda & Doris Albright 47th Annual Dunker Church Service This annual worship service will be held in the restored Dunker Church at the Antietam National Battlefield, Sharpsburg, Md. on Sunday, September 17, 3:00 pm.
