NUI GALWAY

NUI Galway has a

strong reputation on

Semantic Web and

Semantic Technologies

research and it is

recognised as a leading

research institution in this area.

My research area is focused on how to enable

software systems to understand the meaning

of information, enabling them to become more

intelligent and easy to interact with. The real-world

and long-term impact of this area and the level

of the technical challenges involved guided my

choice. NUIG provides an outstanding research

infrastructure. Galway is a very vibrant and

culturally-rich city. It has deep historical roots,

a lovely architecture and a beautiful landscape:

Galway is 10 out of 10. The Irish are open and

friendly and you can easily integrate with the

local culture. The University also provides the

opportunity to interact with people from many

other countries. I would certainly recommend NUI

Galway for prospective international students.”

Andre Freitas, Brazil, PhD in Computer Science

Undergraduate Studies

Did you know?NUI Galway is consistently one of the top Irish Universities for employability – with one of the highest rates of graduate employment in Europe (98%).

Starting a new life in a

different country is not

always easy because you

have to get used to the

time change, weather, food

and culture. But in my opinion, I believe

that it’s a unique experience. Galway

is a vibrant city with so many different

things to see and do. There is a lot of

culture around the city and you don’t have

to look too far for it. That’s one of the

reasons Galway is such a great place to

live and study. NUI Galway is a new kind

of experience for me and the university

is amazing. It has a good structure, good

opportunities and great services. Whatever

comes to mind, they will have and if they

don’t, they will do everything to find a

solution. You can learn so much in class

and also in travels, like I did at the Cliffs of

Moher and on the Aran Islands. You start

to learn more and more about Ireland and

how the history is impressive as well as the

people and their story.”

Galway 2020Galway has been designated the European Capital of Culture 2020 - many of the planned projects involve the University community and campus.

NUI GALWAY

NUI Galway has a

strong reputation on

Semantic Web and

Semantic Technologies

research and it is

recognised as a leading

research institution in this area.

My research area is focused on how to enable

software systems to understand the meaning

of information, enabling them to become more

intelligent and easy to interact with. The real-world

and long-term impact of this area and the level

of the technical challenges involved guided my

choice. NUIG provides an outstanding research

infrastructure. Galway is a very vibrant and

culturally-rich city. It has deep historical roots,

a lovely architecture and a beautiful landscape:

Galway is 10 out of 10. The Irish are open and

friendly and you can easily integrate with the

local culture. The University also provides the

opportunity to interact with people from many

other countries. I would certainly recommend NUI

Galway for prospective international students.”

Andre Freitas, Brazil, PhD in Computer Science
