WHAT IS WORLDSKILLS? WorldSkills Australia is a social enterprise that passionately believes gaining practical skills will drive your future and Australia’s prosperity. WorldSkills works to encourage students of all ages to excel in their chosen field. Apprentices and Trainees take part in Regional competitions, culminating in our Nation’s best and brightest taking part in National and International competitions. WorldSkills Australia will run competitions through 31 regions throughout 2017, involving up to 5,000 competitors and over 450 education providers. The Regional competitions then lead into the next WorldSkills Australia National Competition which will be held in Sydney in 2018. This year, the winners of the 2016 National Competition held in Melbourne will be heading to the WorldSkills International Competition in Abu Dhabi in October where they will compete against 76 countries in around 50 skills. Designed by industry and skills experts, the competitions focus on the highest standards of quality and assess an individual’s knowledge, practical skills and employability attributes against a set of strict criteria. Gold medalists at the Regional competition will then be eligible for the selection process to attend the National competition, Australia’s biggest vocational education and excellence competition, in Sydney in 2018.
