2. The five pillars of Islam are the compulsory beliefs every Muslim must have. They act as a guidance for the way Muslims should practise.
Muslims believe in only one God ; Allah & that the Prophet Muhammad is his final prophet.
Muslims also follow the sunnah of the Prophet through his teachings and sayings.
The Quran is the main scripture in the Islamic religion, Muslims use it as a guide to use for aid in their lives.
Beliefs
3. The story of the cave of Hira is where the Prophet had the first verse of the Quran revealed to him by Angel Gibril.
After many revelations from the Angel for 23 years,the Prophet lead Arabia away from the worship of ideals and into a monotheistic belief of one God, Allah.
These revelations were eventually compiled into what is now, the Quran.
The prophet was in a way leading a revolution against the tribe of Quraish who believed in the worship of Idolatry.He was constantly abused by those who disliked his preaching's.

6. Shahada: Testifying to God's One-ness:
The declaration "There is no God but Allah and Muhammad is His prophet."
When one takes the shahadah they are devoting their beliefs to only one deity. Islam is in this way, a monotheistic religion. If someone takes the shahada they cannot believe in more than one God & they must also submit to the fact that Muhammad is his last prophet.

There are 5 compulsory prayers in a day that every muslim must pray;
1.Fajr: Dawn Prayer (before sunrise)
2.DhuhrNoon Prayer
3.Asr: Afternoon Prayer
4.Maghrib: Sunset Prayer
5.Isha: Night Prayer
Qiblah
The direction of the Ka'aba in Mecca that Muslims should face when they are praying. Kiblah is important because it gives Muslims a sense of unity, uniformity and discipline. If there were no Kiblah, Muslims would pray as isolated groups without any connection to one another.
Aside from the 5 compulsory prayers there are also Sunnah & taraweeh prayers. Sunnah can be preformed after every prayer as it is a practice of the prophet. Taraweeh are long prayers that are prayed after Isha in the month of Ramadan as an act of worship and repentance to God.

9. Zakat: Giving charity.
Zakat literally means purity and cleanliness. One who has enough wealth must give away 2.5% of that wealth to the needy.In Islam, your wealth is considered impure if s portion of it isnt givento the poor at least once every year.
Surah at-Taubah (9) verse 60 says: "The alms are only for the poor and the needy, and those who collect them, and those whose hearts are to be reconciled, and to free the captives and the debtors, and for the cause of Allah, and (for) the wayfarers; a duty imposed by Allah. Allah is knower, Wise."

Everyday during this month, Muslims spend daylight hours fasting; this also includes refraining from drinking any sort of beverages.
This is a time for Muslims to focus only Allah, and cleanse the soul from impurities.
It also gives Muslims a chance to experience the adversities those who are less privileged than us go through on their daily lives.

11. Ramadanis the ninth month of theIslamic lunar calendar. Every day during this month, Muslims around the world spend the daylight hours in a complete fast.
During the blessed month ofRamadan, Muslims all over the world abstain from food, drink, and other physical needs during the daylight hours. As a time to purify the soul, refocus attention on God, and practice self-sacrifice, Ramadan is much more than just not eating and drinking.
Muslims are called upon to use this month to re-evaluate their lives in light of Islamic guidance. They are to make peace with those who have wronged them , strengthen ties with family and friends, do away with bad habits -- essentially to clean up their lives, their thoughts, and feelings. The Arabic word for "fasting" (sawm) literally means "to refrain" - and it means not only refraining from food and drink, but from evil actions, thoughts, and words.

12. During Ramadan, every part of the body must be restrained. The tongue must be restrained from backbiting and gossip. The eyes must restrain themselves from looking at unlawful things. The hand must not touch or take anything that does not belong to it. The ears must refrain from listening to idle talk or obscene words. The feet must refrain from going to sinful places. In such a way, every part of the body observes the fast.
Therefore, fasting is not merely physical, but is rather the total commitment of the person's body and soul to the spirit of the fast. Ramadan is a time to practice self-restraint; a time to cleanse the body and soul from impurities and re-focus one's self on the worship of God.
13. Hajj is the sacred pilgrimage every able bodied Muslim must make. It consists of different steps which are the following:
Pilgrims travel to Jeddah where they make a change of clothing to enter a state of devotion and purity. The begin chanting:
Here I am, Oh God, at Your command!Here I am at Your command!You are without associate!Here I am at Your command!To You are all praise, grace and dominion!You are without associate!
They start their pilgrimage of the 8th of DhulHijah. They travel from Mecca to medina. Spending the day reciting Quran, praying and resting for the rest of the day.

14. 15. On the second day of the pilgrimage they travel to Aarafat where they gather around the mount of mercy asking Allah for forgiveness and making different supplications. Other Muslims who are not performing Hajj Fast on this day. They collect pebbles between the mountains of Aarafat and Mina.
On the 3rd day of pilgrimage the pilgrims travel back to mina where they throw pebbles at the pillars that act as a representation of Satans temptations. Afterwards an animal is sacrificed and given away to the poor. This is a symbolic representation of the fact that Muslims are as to devoted to God at Abraham was when he was willing to sacrifice his son. EidulAdha is celebrated on this day everywhere else.
Once this is completled a trip is made to mecca to perform seven tawaf (turns around the Kabah). They also walk between the mountains of Safa and marwa where Abrahams wife hajardespratley searched for water for herself and her baby before spring welled up for her. This spring is considered holy and is called zamzam, which still flows today.

Muslims pray in large congregations in places called Masjids, Arabic for Mosque. EidulAdha and Fitr prayers are usually preformed there. As well as daily prayers along with Friday Prayers.
Friday prayers are a special prayer done at the time of duhur. Before prayer the imam makes a sermon regarding an issue that people would be dealing with ona daily basis to give spiritual guidance. Afterwards, there is a special supplication made by the whole congregation and a shortened dhur prayer is done.

25. The sunnah is the way and customs of the prophet. The way the prophet dealt with many different situations is a good way for Muslims to act. He followed the rules prescribed to us by god and he lived in a respectful and worthy manner. Some examples of sunnah are :
Wearing your right shoe before your left
Praying Witr after Isha prayers
Preforming circumcsionon a male
Eating with your right hand
Being kind and considerate to all animals
Speaking good words or otherwise being silent
Smiling is a charity

26. The hadith is made up of tradition sand teachings of the prophet Mohammed (swt). Hadith gives a type of framework for the way Muslims should live. Hadiths are usually in the forms of sayings of the prophet in where he gives teachings regarding many different subjects and issues that we deal with in our lives.Many of the companions of the prophet compiled these teachings so there are different compilations available. Some examples of hadiths by the prophet:
God is pure, and he loves purity and cleanliness.
The greatest crimes are to associate another with God, to vex your father and mother, or murder your own species, to commit suicide, and to swear to lie
It is great treachery that you tell your brother such that he accepts as truth from you, but you are lying.

29. Islamic calender:
There are many important months in the Islamic calendar. The calendar is lunar, and has a 12 month cycle. Countries that are governed by Islamic courts follow the Islamic calendar, but other Muslims follow it for religious purposes such as Ramadan and Hajj.

The Quran
31. The Quran is a record of the exact words revealed by God through the Angel Gabriel to the Prophet Muhammad. It was memorized by Muhammad and then dictated to his Companions, and written down by scribes, who cross-checked it during his lifetime. Not one word of its 114 chapters, Suras, has been changed over the centuries, so that the Quran is in every detail the unique and miraculous text which was revealed to Muhammad fourteen centuries ago.
The Quran was originally written in Arabic, but has been translated into all languages of the world overtime.
Muslims are encouraged to recite and listen to Quran frequently through their lives and to keep by heart as much as they can of the Quran.
The Quran, the last revealed Word of God, is the prime source of every Muslim's faith and practice. It deals with all the subjects which concern us as human beings: wisdom, doctrine, worship, and law, but its basic theme is the relationship between God and His creatures. At the same time it provides guidelines for a just society, proper human conduct and an equitable economic system.

Quran, as the holy book and God revelation to Prophet Mohamed, is the main constitution and guide to Muslims to follow the right path in worshiping God (Allah), lead a good life, live in harmony and mutual respect with other cultures and religions. Muslims learn from Quran:

39. Like Jews and Christians, Muslims believe that the present life is only a trial preparation for the next realm of existence. Basic articles of faith include: the Day of Judgment, resurrection, Heaven and Hell. When a Muslim dies, he or she is washed, usually by a family member, wrapped in a clean white cloth, and buried with a simple prayer (Jannazah) preferably the same day. Muslims consider this one of the final services they can do for their relatives, and an opportunity to remember their own brief existence here on earth. The Prophet taught that three things can continue to help a person even after death; charity which he had given, knowledge which he had taught and prayers on their behalf by a righteous child

Allah encourages reconcilation before divorce. If this fails, the spouses are allowed the right to be divorced as written in the Quran. Must wait for a certain amount of time before remarriage (even to the same person)

41. Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should not hurt (trouble) his neighbor. And I advise you to take care of the women, for they are created from a rib and the most crooked portion of the rib is its upper part; if you try to straighten it, it will break, and if you leave it, it will remain crooked, so I urge you to take care of the women."

43. If one is interested in converting to Islam they are usually recommended to visit their local mosques and speak to imams before they make their final decision. It is a great sin to disbelieve once you believe.

Converting To Islam
44. In Islam, your parents are responsible for your practise of the religion until you hit the age of puberty. It is believed that once someone becomes mature they must learn to make decisions on their own and be able to practise on their own. It is a real test of someone's faith because they need to believe in Islam to be able to practise it accordingly.
This includes wearing the hijab, praying, and fasting.

45. Hijab is usually known as only a headcovering that Muslim girls who have reached the age of maturity wear. In reality, Hijab relates to the overall dressing. It refers to a modest method & to a certain extent there is a hijab for males as well.
It is obligatory for all Muslim woman to wear hijab, but it must be from withtin their own intention and will. Anything in Islam that is forced is not considered sincere.

In the Quran it says : And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what must ordinarily appear therof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands fathers, their sons, their husbands sons, their brothers, or their brothers sons or their sisters sons, or their women or the servants whom their right hands possess, or male servants free of physical needs, or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex, and that they should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments. And O you Believers, turn you all together towards Allah, that you may attain Bliss. (Quran 24:31).
