How I lived the Final World Cup 2010

When the Final World Cup day arrived, all people was completely excited: Spain wasgoing to play the Final!! It was a historic moment, the first time that Spain arrived to theFinal of this competition, and all people had their hopes in our football players.

I think that special moments have to be shared with the most special people for us,because you live it in a more intense way. For this reason, that afternoon I watched thematch with my husband and friends at home. Of course, we all wore red t-shirts: wewere with La Roja.

The match was completely thrilling for us. Dutch players were extremely aggressive, and they didnt deserve to win. During the football match streets were desserted butyou could feel people, in their homes and coffee-bars, heaving a sigh with each scoringchance. Finally, when Andres Iniesta scored, we changed all the stress contained in anexplosion of joy. I remember me and my friends jumping and hugging each other: wedidnt believe what was happening!

When the match ended, everybody jumped into the street to celebrate the triumph!! Wewent to the city centre, and everyone was dancing, getting wet in the fountains andlaughing. Even someone was throwing water from the balconies.

I think that victory was a great successful for Spanish sport, but the most important ofall is that, for a long time, it gave us a great illusion, the feel that we are part of thehistory and the believe that impossible is nothing.

    WORLD CUP FINAL

To start with I have to admit that I had never paid too much attention to football until

the last World Cup, despite the fact that my husband loves it.

However, during the last one, the whole family were supporting the National Team, bythe time that Spain had beaten Germany in the semi final match, the dream of being inthe final came true.

The day of the final match against Holland was Sunday, we were at home, at thebeginning the Dutch were playing really tough and our poor players seemed to beastonished, all of us got terribly concerned but then in the last minute, Iesta scored thegoal. Everybody started to jump, and shout, and hug each other as if we had won amillionaire lottery, we felt so happy!

The sound of the horns started to beep in the whole town, people filled thestreets celebrating and singing we are the champions Spanish flags wavedeverywhere and all of us were over the moon!

WORLD CUP FINAL SOUTH AFRICA 2010

That day began as a normal day, I had breakfast and joined the main sport websites asusual but this time my head was 100% focused on the lifetime experience I was going toenjoy.

I stayed at home all day, and when I was having lunch with my family, I took over theremote and tried to watch the sports section of every available channel on TV (Actually, this is what I do almost every day, but this time, with even more emphasis). The match was about to start and I decided to stay at home and watch it with my familyinstead of my friends, which is what I usually do, but when there is a very importantmatch, and there was not one more special like this one, I prefer to share my time withmy father, who isas much of a foptball fanatic as I am.So the match started and I felt confident, we had a better team, better players and theSouth Africans sympathized with us, but... we couldn't score, the Dutch players were

playing dirty and I started to feel anxious and angry. I didn't realised about the time butthe match was about to end, time was running out and I was thinking on an hipotetical

deciding round of penalties when suddenly, Torres sent a long pass to Iniesta, the Dutchdefense rejected the ball, but Fabregas was there, he passed the ball to Iniesta, my fatherand me were getting closer to the TV as the ball was getting closer to Iniesta's foot, thenhe controlled the ball and scored the most important goal of his career. I was kneelingand I started to shout and hug my father, who was as blissful as I was. Then I heard a lotof cars blowing their horns and people shouting on the street and finally the matchended. They did it, they made us World Champions, they brought us the best day of ourlives.

Like everybody knows, last 11th of July was the most important day in the Spanishfootball records. The Spanish national football team won the World Cup for the firsttime in history. The event was really distressing, besides tense. It seemed all Spanish

people was suffering, watching excited the Final on TV. In the next years all we willremember where we were and how we spent that special moment.

Personally I remember I was at home, watching the football match with my parents andmy uncle. We were also eating popcorn with a lot of nerves.

It was about ten oclock and the statutory time was going to finish but there wasnt stilla winner. My uncle had to return to Madrid to his home, nevertheless he preferred towait until the extra time was finished to watch the whole match and in order to knowwho was going to win. Finally Iniesta scored at the minute 116.

Despite the fact that was twelve oclock and having to work next day my uncle was noworried because a feeling of euphoria had invaded our bodies. The moment we had

been hoping for became real!ALBERTO CERVER CASILLAS

I have never thought I would witness such a precious moment like the huge celebrationof the night of 11th July. It was the first time that Spain played the World Cup final andnobody wanted to miss it. For this important occasion every city was decorated with alot of coloured flags, showing the Spains colours. The atmosphere was thrilling and

happy, as we knew we had a chance to get the golden cup.

On the way to my friends house it was fantastic to see everybody singing on the streets, most windows with waving flags and peoples painted faces and cars beeping theirhorns. I was not used to seeing something like that.At that time and for once Spain had ahuge sense of unity. It did not matter they did not know each other. That night we wereall the same and we were united to overcome our opponent. There were no barriers, noteven crisis and fears. Only happiness and celebration.

During the match, it was funny to see the streets; there was not a soul there! The timewas going on but neither team managed to score. The tension was getting bigger. The

Spanish were not playing quite as well as they could and the Dutch were playing roughwith dirty tricks. Finally, in last minutes, a kick of Andrs Iniesta went across the goal.It was like an emotional explosion. People went crazy: we started shouting; jumping, hugging each other. It was like taouchingthe sky. We did not know yet, but this goaldecided in the end the winner of the World Cup Championship. There were only a fewminutes to finish. We started to believe that we could win. We held our handssupporting with hope our team. At the same moment when the referee finished thematch, total pandemonium erupted in Spain. Everybody went to the streets to celebratethe triumph and to show their immense pride in the Spanish team. It was totallyemotional and ecstatic that night. Every corner, square and fountain was a big partywith people hugging, dancing and laughing.

The weeks before the World Cup Final I had lost hope that the Spanish

national team would win the World Cup. However, in Spain we could

notice an almost ridiculous feeling, because people hung the Spanish

flag on their terraces and balconies.

That morning, 11th July, I had woken up really early because of my trip

to London in order to learn English with the PALE Program for two

weeks. That morning, I took the bus to get to Valencias airport ,

where I would meet other 19 teachers and our flight. When I arrived

there I couldnt have anything for lunch because the flight was to fly

on time. Then the plane touched down in London at 5 oclock but we

had to wait for our driver for half an hour and in the end I left my

luggage in the residence at 6:30 local time. It was extremely late

because the match would start in 1 hour.

We went to a nice restaurant to have dinner and to watch the match. I

felt truly starving because that morning I hadnt had anything for

lunch and only a coffee for breakfast. Meanwhile I was watching the

football match, the atmosphere was rather tense and nail biting. I felt

hugely concerned about the end of the match because of the tough

game of the Netherlands. My Spanish mates were unusually

desperate to wave their Spanish flags as a clearly sign of victory.

Finally the climax appeared when Andrs Iniesta scored the winning

    goal in extra time.

Spanish supporters started to shout and cheer our team and people

who were around us looked at us astonished guessing our nationality.

After the end of the match we experienced a hilarious situation and

hysterical feeling in London. Spaniards came into the streets which

were crowded celebrating the victory in the fountains at Picadilly

Circus and Trafalgar Square the whole evening.

They and we were very proud of our national team singing with a

    common chant I am Spanish.

Shortly afterwards the worst happened when I saw an incredible

situation that made me feel ashamed of my nationality. A Spanish boy

was fighting like a bullfighter the red buses and local cars with a red

t-shirt in the middle of the road! Some people were so

Over the moon they lost their common sense!

    WORLD FINAL CUP

Aware of the importance of the match and what it would mean if we won it, I

lived those ninety minutes in a very stressful way. I watched the first period of thematch in a public building of my town, where the town hall had fitted outa room with abig screen and many chairs for all people who wanted to watch the match there. Wewere all young people and we were having a good time in spite of the fact that theatmosphere was extremely tense.

When the first period had finished, I started to feel quite concerned because theminutes had been going by and the Spanish team hadnt scored any goal. Then Irealized that I hadnt paid the attention that the match required as we all had beenchatting.

Consequently, we decided to go home to watch the second period of the matchso that we wouldnt miss anything more of that important match. The second period was

a great deal more distressing than the first, and we were getting angrier because of therude game which the Dutch were playing.

But then Iniesta arrived to score the most important goal of the History and wewon the World Final Cup! Id never felt so elated and so proud of being Spanish!

Nevertheless, I would have felt proud of being Spanish although they had lost thematch. By Diana

    WORLD CUP FINAL

At 116th minute of the World Cup Final between Spain and Holland I was on holiday inAndaluca with my boyfriend. We had been visiting Crdoba and Granada on the

previous days, but that day we were spending our time in beda (Jan). We saw thismatch inside a tapas restaurant totally full of people.

Everyone, myself included, were drinking and eating during the match. Because of thissituation, the atmosphere was very cheerful, although tense. While I was watching TV, Ionly could think about how unfair would be an end decided by penalties. Finally, the

best happened, and probably Ive never seen before anything like this happiness. But me, I had already ordered my last beer with its corresponding tapa when all theSpaniards left that place. A pleasure better than football!

    World Cup Final

I remember the previous morning to the match as a bizarre combination of suchdisparate feelings; not only an enormous pride of having arrived to the World Cup Final

but also the doubt and uncertainty of the final resoult, at least favorable to Spain

    according to octopus Paul prediction.

As I left home in order to meet some friends I realized there was no traffic on thestreets and shops were completely desolate. I had the great oportunity of sharing thisnail-biting and tough match rounded with thousands of people in Santa Maria square, where a nice King-size screen had been installed for the joyment of all ilicitans.

An unforgettable ecstasy broke out from the square when Andrs Iniesta scored thedecisive goal that finally conceded a deserved victory to Spain. As the tradition says wefastly run to the different fountains the centre has so as to have a quick shower and thenwe all met under First Floor disco, where the owners literally watered us with a large

    hose until mid-night.

I did not expect such an emotional night as I had !

My family and twenty others were invited by a couple of friends to their house fordinner and watching the World Cup Final together.Previously , some of us had spent all the afternoon cooking a delicious meal , then

when the expected football match began ,all astonished people took a seat in front of theenormous TV screen. It was not until the Spanish team won that we ate all of thesedishes we had prepared so carefully.

People did not care about dinner at all , only the football match was important for them.I was very surprised because I had never watched a football match from beginning toend and less with a such nervous and worried friends.

It was very funny for me see all of them so desperate all the time until totalpandemonium erupted when Iniesta scored the goal , even I jumped shoutingchampions as if I were the champion indeed.

    World Cup Final

I must confess that although Im not a big soccer fan I always like watching WorldCups so this time wasnt an exception. I remember I was at my sisters house with therest of my family in what by then had become an habit: To huddle up around one of the

TV sets while having pizza and drinking soft drinks.

There are things that I remember crystal-clear and other I cant remember even if I try. That day what meant a lot to me was to be watching the match with my new-bornnephew Erik. So when midfielder Iniesta struck making us win the World Cup I waskeeping an eye on little Erik. But after the contest we all celebrated the victory and atlast we could breath freely because the Dutch team hadnt been playing fair at all.

In the end, one thing I wouldnt mind forgetting is the images of drunken peoplevandalizing the main cities monuments on TV the days after the match!

It was a scorching hot summers afternoon. Nearly 22:30 in theevening of the 11th of July 2010. Streets were deserted. Spain wasparalyzed. Spain football national team was playing for first time inhistory a World Cup final.

We people are creatures of habit. My friends and I had met again forthe sixth time in a row at Carolinas house. Spain hadnt lost a matchwhile we met there. Therefore, we had made her house our temple.

Ninety minutes of suffering and still not a goal. It was time to extratime. Thirty more minutes of emotions. Casillas stopped Robben twotimes. Nobody dared to move. And then the glorious moment came. Fabregas saw Iniesta alone inthe Dutch penalty area, in the 116th minute of the match.

He ripped his right foot through the bouncing ball and hit it with hissoul. Nothing could do Maarten Stekelenburg, the Ducth goalkeeper. His hand was twisted by a ball with the strength of 45 million ofSpanish people. Everyone held their breath for two seconds, and afterthat a rush of excitement filled Carolinas living room. We did it. Yes,

    we could.

Iniesta led Spain to its first World Cup in history after 80 years ofcompetition. We left behind those images of Zubizarreta, Luis Enriqueor Raul missing the penalty against France among others. This star, embroidered over the players heart will remind us, probably forever, how, for a few hours we felt the kings of the world.

World Cup Final in the St James Way

The finals day I was in the hostel of Ribadiso do Baixo because I wasdoing The Saint James way with a couple of friends. During the day the whole

people were talking about the match and you could realise the excitement of theevent.

We watched the final in the bar of Ribadiso and we had been playingmus before the match to relax. There were about twenty people in the barwhen the match started. People from a lot of places of Spain and people fromGermany and Italy. We werent very nervous because we were tired becausethat morning we had walked about 25 km.

When finally Iniesta scored people went crazy and they were huggingeach other. In my case, I was happy but not in the same way as the rest of the

people. I felt happier when Iniesta scored in Stamford Bridge with F.C.Barcelona. When the match finished we were sleepy and we climbed into bed to

sleep because we had to get up at 6:00 am to started to walk.

As a rule, Im not at all keen on football. Im not interested in any particular team, norin any championship, nor in knowing players names or achievements, and so on.

Nevertheless, I find the World Cup an incredibly appealing event, as a lot of countriesall around the world are competing and I truly feel close to the rest of Spaniards.

In this year contest I had a hunch, so I followed all the matches like Ive never donebefore, totally enthusiastic, freaking out at every goal, stressed out in the Casillaspenaltys block, hugging my match mates when Spain scored one and jumping andlaughing when a phase was over andLa Roja was the winner again.

The happy ending of this little story is well known, unfortunately I suffered thecelebration (flags everywhere, media harping about it, monothematic conversations, etc.)during weeks, but taking in account that Spain got its first yellow star, I find all that

    noise quite normal.

That day we had been all day in the beach because it was summer and the weather wasfantastic too. Approximately two hours before the the match: Spain-Holland, everyone

Fortunately that didnt happen. The Final Cup World championship had begun and allof us were so nervous but delighted at the same time because Spain was playing a finalfor the first time. The whole country was as excited as we were of course. At home theatmosphere was amazing. Faithfully everybody expected that Spain to win, but theDutch did not play fairly so Spain had a lot difficulties to win.

I had worked in Elche on Monday and Tuesday that incredibly

He was going to play billiards in a very well-known championship amongst billiardpeople. The latest championship he won the unbeaten Spain champion inthe round before the quarterfinals in Murcia, however, he lost in thesecond game in Gijn so we went to tour around Asturias.

The following Sunday we saw the billiard final, we went to aclosing dinner in an extremely big cider press with all players and theirfamilies. The dinner was absolutely calm while we watched the match onTV, nevertheless a lot of people erupted and stood when Andres Iniestascored in the last minutes of the match.

By far the most astonishing moment was when Iker Casillaspicked up the cup and everybody in the cider press was shouting again asyou can see in the photo. People boasted about being Spanish and theysung a lot of timesI am Spanish, Spanish, Spanish

I was on the way to the airport (this time for pleasure) when the World CupFinal was taking place. In fact, I felt really disappointed because my flight wasdue exactly at the same time as the final match .

That day my summer holidays started so in order to celebrate it and chill Idecided to join some friends who were having vacations in Formentera (such awonderful place by the way) and I couldnt wait for it! But things didnt seem tobe right that evening (at least for me) because when I turned up to the airportmy flight to Ibiza was already airborne. My pal Fran had booked it for me months ago and he got the departure timewrong. I felt shock and embarrassed (yes, I work there and everybody was

Apparently, that Sunday began as any other Sunday. I got up ready to go for a walk withmy dog. The streets were empty and calm. There were a few people around. However,

there was a diferent feeling floating in the air. Most of the balconies had been coveredwith Spanish flags. They had probably been there for the month the worldchampionship lasted.

The 11th of July was the day. The octopus Paul had predicted that Spain would be thenext world champion. We all, who were keen on that match, were confident in our team.

The time of the match came. I had already done all of my houseworks and all things Ihad to do, even walk my dog earlier than usual, so that nothig could interrupt me.

The match started and the other team was playing exceedingly tough and in a such dirty

way that I was getting more and more excited. Furthermore, the first chance to score agoal was for them. At that moment I was desperate and I spread that despair to my dogwhich started barking at me to calm me down.

Almost at the end of the extra time Iniesta scored the goal. I lost control of myself andI started to jump and shout. My wife was also jumping and shouting, but suddenly sheasked me for being quiet in order to listen to the total pandemoniun that had just eruptedand it came into through the open windows.

In spite of the fact that the last time I watched a football match was

It was the 114 minute when the Spaniard footballer called Iniesta

I will never forget the World Cup 2010 final, when Spain became the world championin a very tense and emotional match. On that day, like the great majority of the Spanish,

I had been watching the match on TV at home. I was with my family and some relativeswho were on holiday in Alicante. We had never supported the Spanish national team before, but in that especial event allof as were wearing red and yellow t-shirts and the Spanish flag painted in our faces. Atthe beginning, we were extremely nervous and concerned because of the tough and ill-tempered game that the Dutch were doing.

The Holland players were disrespectful and their behaviour left a lot to be desired. Butwhen Iniesta scored the game-winning goal our feelings changed completely, we startedto shout, cry and embrace each other. We were over the moon! We felt absolutely

secretly I was convinced that the World Cup was for us.After lunch time I talked to my boyfriend and he told me that his brother and a coupleof friends of my brother-in-law were going to watch it with us, at my parentscountryside house. When we arrived to the countryhouse my partner told me that the couple werent goingto come, so we went on preparing something to eat it while we watched the match. The time of the most waited moment arrived. I was pretty nervous and extremelydesperate because the referee didnt blow the whistle to the Dutch Team, their gamewas unfair because they knew they couldnt stop our Team. While time passed I was getting more and more tense, when the miracle worked,Iniesta scored the one and only goal, it was total pandemonium, all of us began yelling,

jumping, shouting of happiness. That moment made me feel inmensely proud aboutwhat Spain had just achieved. We had a prteey anxious time but it was well worth it. I hope it isnt the last, next on2014.By Raquel Chilln

The 116th minute of the World Cup final

It was quite a warm humid day on Sunday 11 th July 2010. But it wasnt a normal

summers day: the FIFA World Cup final was going to be played in the evening. A lot

of people were pretty nervous and tense, but not me. That morning I was absolutely

satisfied and relaxed, because the day before I had done my duty: I had bought a lot of

beer to drink it during the extremely longed-for football match.

That week I had arranged to meet my brother at 8 pm in his cottage in order to

watch the match together. I arrived at my brothers house on time. Up to that moment Ihad been reading the fascinating non-fiction novel When Nietzsche Wept. But I forgot it

as soon as I came to my brothers home, because I began to get more and more anxious.

The football match started at 8:30. Since then all the people around the world

could see a pretty dirty and tough play on the part of Holland national team. My brother

got nervous and I got worried: why didnt the referee begin to send Dutch players off?

Then it happened: in the 116th minute of the match Iniesta scored a goal against

Holland. Till that moment we had been very stressed and angry. But then we becamehysterical and began to jump up and down: Spanish national team made it. By Ricardo

    WORLD CUP FINAL

Although I have never liked football very much, I have to admit that this event was

    a solemn occasion for everybody.

That very special day we were at home, all the family dressed in red shirts and

expecting the match to start.Time was passing and we were very disappointed by the Dutch team. They were

playing dirty tricks and in an aggressive way.

After some minutes of excitement, Iniesta scored and all of us were overwhelmed

    with emotion.

There was a kind of delightful atmosphere in the air; we were extremely happy

    and almost moved to tears.

The entire neighbourhood went crazy, horns and fireworks at everywhere, and

    total pandemonium erupted.

I would definitely say that football links people and all of us were immensely proud

    of being Spanish.

    World Cup Final

On the 11th of July, the World Cup Final, I was at home with my friends and ourchildren . Before starting the match, I made everybody up with the flags colour, red

and yellow. We were extremely nervous during the whole match because the goal didnt came but when Iniesta took the ball and kicked into the goal we started to shout andjump, but no everyone in the room, my baby was crying because he was prettyfrightened looking at us.

After a few seconds, I managed to calm him down and after we took our flags andwhistles and we went out, to the fountain near home. Never before had I seen so manyhysterical people celebrating a victory, all around me was red. It was really amazingand exciting.

I have a good memories from that day.

    World Cup Final

The day of the world cups final I had been washing my car all morning. Afterwards, while I was having lunch with my family, the telephone rang. It was Elena, my bestfriend, to tell me that all my friends had arranged to watch the football match all

    together; and so we did.

All my friends watched the football match in a very big screen in a famous large squarein Elche, next to the imposing Basilica of Santa Maria. It was awesome because therewere several hundreds of people congregated there.

The atmosphere was unbelievable and I felt elated, but a little worried that my countrywould not win. I was desperate to bring home the world cup.

When Iniesta scored the goal, I was ecstatic and total pandemonium erupted in thesquare. Then, we had fantastic fireworks while people were waving their flags.

After the goal, it was very stressful to watch, because I was worried the Netherlandswould score a goal.

But, fortunately, they didnt, and now we are The Champions of the world.

World Cup FinalThe Sunday in which the final took place, my wife and I were planning where we were goingto see the match,we decided among many options and in the end we chose to watch the event

in a terrace of a bar near the beach of Guardamar.

Prior to the beginning of the game,we wandered the streets seeing everywhere the Spanishflag colors:at the balconies, waving flags from cars windows, people dressed in red andyellow shirts and with the same colors drawn in their faces and the giant screen in a centralsquare that the town hall or private companies put in almost all towns.

People were passionate following the match people followed the match with a lot ofenthusiasm, they insulted the Dutch players when they made a foul and specially at themoment the Dutch kicked the Spanish midfield in the chest and that foul didnt have

punishment but at last Iniesta scored the Spanish goal few minutes before the end of the gameand everybody burst into tears of happiness, they shouted, drank, got into fountains, soundedtheir horns and the celebration lasted the whole night.

World Cup Final Spain vs The Netherlands

I have never been extremely fond of football, and especially watching it on TV, butfrom time to time and specially on certain occasions I follow the mass and I add myselfto the national team temporary madness, just to feel the joy of the followers.

On the World Cup Final I happened to be surrounded by hundreds of excited andboisterous teenagers and youngsters, clapping their hands, shouting, and doing anythingthat they were able just to make noise and support their -our- team.

A few scattered Dutch were fooling around just to bother, but they could not provokethe Spanish anymore at the time that Iniesta scored the desired goal that made us feel amixture of craved relief and emerging exultation.
