Updating from Previous Versions
Supported Versions for Direct Update
Following product versions are supported for a direct update to this version:
› Matrix42 Workspace Management 8.0.2
› Matrix42 Workspace Management 8.0.3
› Matrix42 Workspace Management 8.1
› Matrix42 Workspace Management 8.1.1
› Matrix42 Workspace Management 8.1.2
Important: This update is not supported for Workspace Management 8.1 LTSB!
Updating from Version 8.1.0.1649
If you have already installed build 8.1.0.1649, you have to remove following files from installation
folder: root/web/bin
● Extensibility.dll
● update4u.Templates.VS2010.Addin.Workflows.dll
● update4u.Templates.VS2010.Core.dll
Patch Installer
The launch kit contains a patch installer that can be used to update existing deployment of version
8.1.0.1638 or higher.
Unattended Setup
You may update your copy of Matrix42 Workspace Management in unattended mode by using
PowerShell. Default templates are available in REDIST.zip (see Launch Kit on Marketplace), which
can be configured individually to perform an unattended installation or update of the environment.
Unattended Installation of Prerequisites
Registered users can download the free software components (REDIST.zip) from the Matrix42
Marketplace. After you unpack the archive, you will see that the file names are already numbered
in the correct sequence for your convenience. You should always install the components in the
given sequence, as the components depend on each other.
It is also possible to install all of these components automatically by using the PowerShell script:
1. Update the execution policy by using the Set-ExecutionPolicy.ps1 file, i.e. copy the
command from this file, paste it to the PowerShell Console and run as administrator.
2. Run either Redistribution_SQL_2008.ps1 or Redistribution_SQL_2012.ps1, depending on
your SQL Server version.
All scripts are available in your REDIST folder as well.

User Log-in to Console / Breaking Change
Prior to product version 8.1.0 all accounts with a status value other than Deleted (2004) and with
the unselected Deny Workspace Management Logon checkbox were allowed to log in to Matrix42
Workspace Management.
With product version 8.1.0 and higher, only accounts with a status value equal to Active (2001) and
with the unselected Deny Workspace Management Logon checkbox are allowed to log in to
Matrix42 Workspace Management.
Redirects for http/https
It was required to use an additional IIS website with HTTP redirect to the main website for enabling
the HTTPS protocol with Matrix42 Workspace Management version 8.0.2 or earlier.
In the meanwhile, Matrix42 Workspace Management provides a built-in support of HTTPS and this
configuration is not required anymore.
We highly recommend that you roll back any additional HTTPS configuration before updating to
this product version as described below:
› Revert the configured HTTP/HTTPS redirection:
o Delete a website that was used for forwarding.
o Change binding for HTTP for the default website from IP to *
o Disable the “Require SSL” option for the default website.
› During the update, use the Force SSL settings. Alternatively, in the Configuration Wizard
click Change Security Configuration and select the Force SSL checkbox after the update is
performed.
Customizing Compatibility
Very Important: As this version has been compiled with .Net Framework 4.5.1, all installed
customizations must be migrated to .Net Framework 4.5 as well. Please make sure that new
versions of your installed customizations are available before you initialize the update.
In addition, Microsoft PowerShell 3.0 is required. Please make sure that new versions of your
installed customizations are available before you initialize the update.
AD Data Provider (LDAP)
Changed Name of Data Provider
Since “LDAP Data Provider” was meant to support Active Directory ever since, it has been
renamed to “AD Connector” consequently to avoid possible misunderstandings.
Import of “User cannot change password”
Due to performance reason, the attribute “User cannot change password” has been excluded from
default import configuration for cases when the user account that executes the import does not
own Domain Admin permissions.
Release Notes Workspace Management 8.1.3
Last Revision: 15. December 2016 Page 6
This is because this attribute is a part of special AD Security. If user account used to read AD is
AD-Administrator then the value can be retrieved within one LDAP query. If not, this value can be
retrieved only per AD-Entry, which needs separate queries for every single entry in AD.
If this attribute is critical for your organization you can either to configure a privileged user for
import operation or force importing this attribute by activating the option “Force import of ‘User
cannot change password’” on page “Implementation” in AD Data Provider dialog.
Monitoring
To provide transparency to AD Import process a new dialog tabulator “Monitoring” has been added
to AD Connector dialog. In a single glance there, you can get all the information about status of the
import.

Known Issues
Importing SIM Cards from AirWatch
Because of technical restrictions of the AirWatch REST API, SIM cards can be identified only by
phone number. This can lead to mismatches and wrong assignments because of ambiguities in
approximately 20% of cases.
As a temporary workaround, we offer the possibility to switch off mapping of SIM cards directly in
the Data Provider settings.
This issue requires changes in the AirWatch software. We are currently communicating with
responsible owners at AirWatch to have this problem resolved as soon as possible. We want to
continue providing you full SIM card reconciliation in future product versions.
Unfortunately, we do not have control over this process for obvious reasons. However, we
apologize for any inconveniences.
Customized LDAP Workflows
Customized LDAP workflow can be broken because of the breaking change in execution contract
of the LDAP: Import Groups and LDAP: Membership import definitions. Because of the additional
input parameter DomainId to these GDIEs, the ExecuteGDI workflow activity in the customized
LDAP workflow does not meet the input contract and fails the workflow execution.
To solve this issue, set up the DomainId parameter for Execute GDI Sequence activities with
names GDIE Group and GDIE Membership.

Announcements We would like to refactor the Data Model for the next release. In particularly, we want to exclude
SPSActivityClassBase from configuration items “Approval” and “Change Approval”. This change is
motivated by our goal to simplify the data model with expected improvements for the runtime
behavior.
In the standard product, everything will be migrated. Customers with special custom reports or
other customizing need to consider verifying their implementations and potentially adjust them.
