Principles of developing community based approach • Need knowledge and network in the area • Need to involve all partners from the early stages

including evaluator and parents • Need to identify common goals • Need to identify common language• Recognise that many partners may be dormant • Recognise that the primary relationship will be

between RSL (if the main sponsor) and the delivery agent (contractor)

Range of methods to attract parents • Launch event • Leaflet drop • Individual letters – all agencies in area provided

names and addresses of possible attendees – some were targeted at families with perceived problems. Details often sketchy.

• Local champions• Direct personal approach on doorsteps

perspective • Give confidence• Provide tools

Outcomes – Early stages but so far

• Nine parents through the programme • Strong bond within the group • Set up social enterprise• Delivering new programme in different area• Discussing how to develop more activity in the

originating area • A group of parents that MHT wants to encourage

to be involved in a range of further activities involving the community within their community
