• During “busy times” in the oil patch, the focus is on “getting the job done” for the client, and adding staff as needed

• Training often is put on the “back burner”

• During a downturn, there is more time available to complete needed training

Career Development

• In addition to training, downturns allow both Operations and HR to evaluate talent, and focus on the development of that talent

• Reevaluate career paths and/or “reset” paths for others

• Time for reflection and focus on bench strength

• Succession Planning – Get ready for the next “boom”
