About CARE
CARE BD is a part of CARE International, one of the world's largest private international humanitarian
organizations, enabling families in poor communities to improve their lives and overcome poverty.
CARE began work in BD in 1949 with the famous CARE packages that the Americans sent to survivors of World
War II in Europe and Asia.

PARTNERS OF CARE BD
CARE BD is a development partner of the government of BD with the Ministry of Local Government, Health and Family Planning, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Home, Disaster Management Bureau and has working
relations with the Ministry of Food.
DONOR AGENCIES
The major donors are the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Canadian
International Development Agency (CIDA), DANIDA, UK's Department for International
Development, UNICEF, UNDP, SAVE the Children (USA) and Family Health International and the
European Union. CARE BD also receives fund from private donors: Timberland.
FLOURISHING PROJECTS OF CARE BD
Education Program: Promote Quality and Ensure Retention of Girls
Improving Basic Education is one of the strategic directions of CARE BD. It has two foci in its education programming:
Formal primary education in both Government & Community schools
Non-formal education within a wide range of rural development programs
Formal Primary Education:
The overall objective is to improve access, quality, equity and efficiency in formal primary education programs,
particularly for girls in deprived communities. Social mobilization and awareness building, especially for
mothers, are high priorities.
Non-Formal Education: The Education sector also collaborates with many other
development programs at CARE BD to incorporate non-formal education in their agriculture, health, and income
generating activities.
Primary Education projects:
'CHOLEN' - 'Chittagong Hill Tract (CHT) Children's Opportunities for Learning Enhanced' is implemented with
financial supported from USAID and CARE-USA in the three Hill Districts of BD (Khagrachari, Rangamati and
Bandarban) where the majority of the population is tribal.
'SETUP' - School Effectiveness Through Union Parishads is a pilot project now being implemented in several schools in Gaibandha and Rangpur districts in
Northern BD.
Collaborative Non-Formal Education Projects:
'Community Resource Centers' in the urban slum areas of Jessore and Tongi, a pilot project is
being implemented to provide non-formal education to the slum children and women.
CARE BD developing next stage of Bangladesh cyclone relief - With the emergency “life saving” phase
of CARE's relief efforts in Bangladesh nearing completion, CARE BD is starting to shift its focus to
support that will enable people to return to their villages
and rebuild their lives.
CARE BD Rushes Aid to Affected Areas - CARE BD rushed support to cyclone-ravaged areas to
help the affected people. In collaboration with partner NGOs -- Prodipon, SAP-BD, RIC and Coast, CARE delivered emergency food ration, plastic sheeting, candles, and plastic water containers to
5,000 families, once the storm passed.

The main philosophy of CARE BD is based on enabling familiesin poor communities to improve their lives and poverty. They are community based organization. They identify and confront the root causesof the poverty.
THE TYPE THAT CARE BD BELONGS
Development Service Oriented
On the basis of orientation, CARE BD belongs development service oriented NGO. Activities include profession of health care, family planning, education service, agriculture, water and sanitation, infrastructure, and small enterprise development.
International NGO
On the basis of spatial coverage CARE BD is international NGO. CARE BD operate in several geographical locations having their headquarters in Brussels.
INSTITUTIONAL STRATEGIES
CARE BD part in development activities where beneficiary groups are involved besides relief and welfare. They are working not only with government policies but also with other agencies. And they build up a sustainable system which helps to provide long term benefits to the beneficiary groups. So we concluded it as a THIRD GENERATION.
