What is the UDC?

• UDC = Unified Digital Campus• Approach to align WPI’s business processes

to its strategic goals • Greater than “just Banner” or technology in

general• Ongoing activity embedded in how we do

business• “it doesn’t end”


What are the UDC Goals?

• Conduct a comprehensive Banner renewal• Create distributed ownership of business unit

data• Establish & maintain institutional intelligence• Craft an enterprise architecture approach at

WPI• Create a project governance framework

• Process Improvement Assessments– English how are we conducting business today and how can we do it

better thru a new process or change of an existing one

• Needs Assessments in each business unit– English identify “new” technology to use to better serve the business

• Strategic Process Mapping Exercises for all business units– English map how we are doing business v. our strategic goals

• Top initiatives identified– English Governance has identified the top “projects” and set a priority for each

Banner Bootcamps

• Customized to WPI– Training reorganized to be “as needed” and “when

needed”– Two types:

• Hands-on technical training for IAs, advanced users• Hands-on operational training for Administrative

Assistants, operational business unit staff, …

– Emphasizes what you “don't know” and why you should know it


Academic Affairs heard…• Lack of access to data:

– Student academic data– Class lists– Research budget reports

• Too much paper• Training problems• Cumbersome nature of some reports

– Paper only, or– Screen data doesn’t print well

• Added Pam Theodore as Information Analyst– Direct assistance to departments– Development of campus-wide capabilities

• Developed Initiatives related to the needs
