Next year, I will be taking leave from the Department of Education and Training. This has been a VERY difficult decision, as you all know that I love Wonthaggi Primary School. It is a wonderful school, we have amazing staff, awesome children and an incredibly supportive community. However, I have been offered substantial employment as an Educational Consultant in the ACT and southern NSW (as well as in England). I made my final decision when I really reflected on life; and decided that if I’m lucky enough to one day be “rocking in a chair” in my old age, that I would look back with regret if I didn’t take this opportunity. We so often hear that “people regret what they haven’t done, rather than what they have done.” It is my intention to return to Wonthaggi Primary School for the 2018 school year. The Department of Education and Training are in the process of appointing the Acting Principal for 2017, and we will announce the successful candidate when this process has been completed. Class Allocations for 2017 With our wonderful growing school community, we will be running 16 classes; Prep x3, Grade 1/2 x4, Grade 3/4 x4 and Grade 5/6 x5. We are currently completing student placements for classes for next year. If you have any requirements for your child, please ensure that these are received in writing no later than 9am Monday 5 th December. These requests should only be based on the learning needs of your child and will be taken into account as a component for next year. Our staff know your children very well and every effort is made to ensure that your child is placed to maximise their potential. We will be farewelling Wendy Wilson (Prep) at the end of the year. She has completed a full-time contract in 2016 and is looking forward to spending more time with her young family in 2017. She has been very committed to the school and we are very appreciative of all the extra efforts Wendy has contributed to our school and your children. We wish her all the best on behalf of our school community. Ruth Chambers (Music) will be taking leave for the 2017 school year to enjoy time with her family. Di Johnson (Education Support) will be taking long service leave for Term 1. We are also expecting to welcome Alison Stewart back in 2017, after her year exchange to Newhaven Primary School. She is also currently working part-time (2.5 days per week) with the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA). We will be welcoming the following new staff in 2017: Fiona McKellar, joins us from Cranbourne East Primary School. She has had extensive experience as a team leader and classroom teacher over the past 5 years. Shelley Rose, joins us from Wonthaggi North Primary School. She has taught at Wonthaggi North for the past 4 years. Allana Besley, completed extensive teaching rounds with our school in 2015 & 2016. She is well known to our school community. Cassandra Pearce, joins us from Morwell, having completed placements at Yinnar and Glengarry Primary schools, which have a very similar teaching philosophy. Cassandra VanSwol is a local young teacher, joining us after completing placements at Wonthaggi North Primary school. Interestingly she attended school here and her grandmother taught here… Our anticipated teacher structure is as follows: (However please be aware that it is highly likely that there will be changes) Prep: Sue Burrage, Louise Meade, Sally Terlich (4 days)/Marc Ibrhaim (1 day) Grade 1-2: Megan Leversha, Emily Azzopardi, Fiona McKellar and Cassie Van Swol Grade 3-4: Andrew Inglis, Allana Besley, Ailsa Goding (4 days) Kylie Horton (1 Days), Alison Stewart (2.5 days)/Karyn Thomas (2.5 Days) Grade 5-6: Roz Whiteman, Jenna Elliott, Bek Vagg, Shelley Rose, Cassie Pearce Art: Pirili Chapman, Music: Marc Ibrhaim Physical Education: Will Rankin Literacy Curriculum Specialist: Wendy Bradley Mathematics/Science Specialists: Chris Terlich & Karyn Thomas Education Support: Katrina Plummer, Chris Blundell, Faye Zappa, Michelle Smith, Jess Feather & Di Johnson (Terms 2-4), Business Manager: Robyn Spargo, Office Administration: Andrea Lower OHS Administration: Bibi Sago Principal: To Be Appointed, Assistant Principal: Vin Hally All children will be involved in a Transition Session on Thursday 15 th December to allow them to become as comfortable as possible with their new class mates. (Our Grade 6 children will have Graduation Practice at this time).
