Maramures is one the best kept Europe's secrets, the place where the time hasn't moved for decades, a place where the traditions, the wooden art and the human kindness are well preserved. On this small surface are preserved over 100 wooden churches (8 of them listed on UNESCO list), a natural reserve also protected by UNESCO

În Maramureş se află mai mult de o sută de biserici din lemn din care opt au fost cuprinse pe listele patrimoniului mondial UNESCO. Una dintre cele opt este biserica de lemn din Şurdeşti

The church of Şurdeşti was the tallest wooden church in Europe with its tower of 54 m and a total height of 72 m until a few years back when the new 78 m tall church of the monastery of Peri in Săpânţa was built.

The Graeco-Catholic church of the Holy Archangels was built in 1766, proved by an inscription in Cyrillic characters incised above the entrance door. The church is one of the eight wooden churches included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Biserica greco-catolică a „Sfinţilor Arhangheli” din Şurdeşti, constuită în 1766 era cea mai înaltă biserică din lemn din toată Europa, cu turla de 54m şi o înălţime totală de 72 metri, până acum câţiva ani, când a fost construită noua biserică a mănăstirii Peri din Săpânţa, de 78 metri înălţime.Edificiul este inclus pe Lista Patrimoniului Mondial UNESCO.
