Democracy and Gender

The pursuit of democracy is incomplete without policies, measures and practices that seek to reduce inequalities between men and women in all spheres of life and

which anchor democracy and its intersection with gender. Democracy is supposed to transform power relations between men and women by promoting

the equal distribution of power and influence between women and men.

About Quotas

This website reveals that the use of electoral quotas for women is much more widespread than is commonly held. An increasing number of countries are currently

introducing various types of gender quotas for public elections: In fact, half of the countries of the world today use some type of electoral quota for their parliament.
