A Message from Father Powers On Moving Forward on Weekend Masses
Returning to public worship in our collaborative churches was both exciting and challenging. We were excited to welcome folks back to church. To facilitate that, we faced a variety of challenges that were unique to each parish. First and foremost, we want to keep worshippers, clergy, staff and volunteers safe. We established social distancing procedures before, during and after Mass; a sanitation plan for each church and created a reservation system to ensure contact tracing and compliance with directives on seating limits. All of these allow us to maximize safety and mitigate risk at public Masses. Right now, each parish has one Sunday Mass. The 9.30a Mass at St. Barbara welcomes an average of 64 worshippers. The 11a Mass at St. Anthony welcomes an average of 19 worshippers. Each parish is different and every parish has varied responses to public Masses. Attendance is based on worshippers’ confidence in safety arrangements, their ages, overall physical health and family support. There have been requests to add additional Masses to this schedule. Right now, expanding the Mass schedule does not depend upon numbers of actual or potential worshippers. That may change in the future. It does depend on the number of hospitality volunteers we have to welcome, seat and sanitize at each Mass. Currently, we do not have adequate volunteers to staff additional Masses. Rather than rely on anecdotal information, we will survey parishioners to determine if we have the volunteer resources available to expand the schedule. Please remember, no volunteers = no additional Masses. We cannot expand the Mass schedule until we have volunteers. Change is not always easy. With your commitment, inevitable changes can be managed well. It’s still too soon to determine if/when we can return to a pre-pandemic Mass schedule. Other parishes make decisions based on their resources. We need to avoid adding Masses only to cancel them for lack of volunteers. If we can’t safely add on a Mass, we won’t add it. Part of that safety involves hospitality volunteers to support social distancing, tracing and sanitation. We are still learning as we move into an unknown future. With God’s Grace, we will move with caution, common sense and care. Our Lady of Good Health, pray for us!

Summer me is like New Year’s Day. We make resolu ons about things we will do, places we will go,
books we will read and chores we will nally get done. And almost as quickly as we make them, summer has own by and we’ve accomplished few of our lo y goals. One goal that can s ll be met is the one about spiritual renewal. This is the perfect me to do something as a family to understand more fully and prac ce more deeply the values, goals and habits of faith. Without some a en on and work, faith can languish. A special project, a class, weekday Mass or family prayers can do a lot to revive and renew your faith. Like the small seed planted in the spring that now is full grown and bear-ing fruit, faith requires nourishment and care. We can al-ways call upon the gi s of the Holy Spirit to help us in
mes of growth and change. Paul tells the Romans that the Spirit helps us in our weakness, even praying for us when we do not know how to pray. God’s love is so pervasive that nothing stands between Him and us. Nourish your faith now so that in your me of need, you will receive the fruits of the Holy Spirit.

Thank You!
Thank you Barbara Jeanno e for coordina ng the registra on process for Sunday Mass a endance at both Churches. Your system has made it easy for the Hospitali-ty Volunteers to assist worshippers into the Church! We started taking reserva ons for 60 worshippers and slowly increased it to 80. Remember - without Hospitality Volunteers, we would not be able to reach the numbers that we have since re-opening the Church.
Adopt a Sta on Lo ery Thank you to Geo at Painters Pride! The restora on of the 14 Sta ons of the Cross is complete and they are beau ful!
