THOUGHTS FROM THE EDITOR’S
DASH
By Colin Blair
It has been a very busy June and July has
started just the same. Jen’s soccer team
is playing at the World Master’s
Tournament in New Zealand next spring
and the planning is in full swing. We’re
going to be travelling with a couple of
the other player’s to do some sight-
seeing and they (and their kids) all came
over on Canada Day for some extra
planning.
I brought the coupe over as we were
going out to Mom’s for dinner later that
day and I want to give it a good wash
and polish. All the girls saw the car and
of course wanted to go for a ride. We
toured the beach in White Rock with a
rumbleseat full of passengers and all
were wearing smiles. One girl, her dad
has a Pontiac Acadian and her mum
drives a 1967 Camaro exclaimed that
the rumbleseat was “More fun than
mum’s Camaro!”
We took the Coupe out to Mom’s later
in the evening and did a tour of
Chilliwack for old time’s sake. The car
purred along and was happy to be back
on the road. Mom was happy to have
another Model A in the garage again.
July has been busy with Kaitlyn and
Anna competing in highland dancing at
the Skagit Valley Highland games in Mt.
Vernon over the weekend. Both girls
danced beautifully and came home with
some well earned hardware.
Now that summer is in full swing, I am
hoping to have some time to work on
the Roadster pickup. First is the annual
Westport car show this week which will
mean a bath and a polish for her too.
We’ve got some friends visiting towards
the end of July and I hope to bring the
truck out again for their visit.

FROM THE HISTORY PAGES
Courtesy of Old Car Sunday
June 21, 1992 – Mission, BC. We simply
couldn’t have a better Father’s Day in
Mission. Hot and sunny weather, a
beautiful public park overlooking the
Fraser River and close to 400 cars and
trucks gathered for our first ever “Old
car Sunday.”
Traditionally, it can take three or four
years to achieve the numbers of people
and vehicles that showed up for this
gathering. Besides the astounding
number of antique, special interest and
modified cars and trucks that came out
(along with the folks who came in
them), at least 3000 people drove or
walked over to the park to take in the
show. The day was unique in a number
of respects. Model A’s parked beside
hot rods, vintage trucks sat next to “lead
sleds.” With no judging component and
plenty of food and entertainment, the
event became a family day in one of the
prettiest parks in BC’s beautiful Fraser
Valley. A huge amount of volunteer
work was done by members of four
regional car clubs. The prospect of an
even larger turnout has everyone
wondering just how many more vehicles
and people this particular facility could
handle.
But how about some
acknowledgements regarding this year’s
how! A lot fo the credit goes to Don
and Lilah Warren and to Pat and Diane
O’Connor. Don and Lilah operate
Rumbleseat Restorations in Mission and
Don is also the past national president
of the Vintage Car Club of Canada, and
the current president of that club’s
Golden Ear’s (Maple Ridge, BC) chapter.
Lilah was instrumental in organizing a
top-notch fashion show of period
clothing, and took notes in over five
months of meetings. Pat O’Connor is
president of the Mission Klassics whose
club members were critical to the day’s
smooth flow, and Diane organized a
round of kid’s games and kept the
coffee and goodies coming at those
same strategy sessions.
Our annual show is a great way to spend
Father’s Day with the entire family.
Come visit, rain or shine. Old Car
Sunday in the Park is one of the largest
shows of vintage, antique and collector
vehicles on display in Western Canada.
You do not want to miss this great
family event! Our largest display was in
2013 with 1348 show vehicles.
The first 1000 show vehicles registered
receive a free dash plaque. Registration
is only $10.00 per show vehicle payable
at the 7th Avenue gate entrance, east of
Stave Lake street, on the day of the
show. Pre-registrations are not
accepted. All show vehicle registrations
are done the morning of the show at
the park, via the 7th Avenue entrance.
Vehicle show gate opens at 6:30 am.
Food, entertainment and kid’s activities
on-site. Public entry by donation with a
portion of the net proceeds going to
Variety – The Children’s Charity.
Due to limited, on-site public parking at
the park, we strongly encourage visitors
to take advantage of the free parking
and free shuttle buses at the West Coast
Express parking lot in Mission to and
from the venue starting at 8:30 am.
Thank you Translink for the use of this
parking lot!

FOR THE FUNNY BONE

A truck driver was doing his usual
delivery to the Mental Hospital.
He discovered a flat tire when he was
about to go home.
He jacked up the truck and took the flat
tire down. When he was about to fix
the spare tire, he accidentally dropped
all the bolts into the drain.
As he can't fish the bolts out, he started
to panic. A patient happened to walk
past and asked the driver what
happened.
The driver thought to himself, since
there's nothing much he can do;
he told the patient the whole incident.
The patient laughed at him & said "can't
even fix such a simple problem... no
wonder you are destined to be a truck
driver..."
"Here's what you can do, take one bolt
each from the other 3 tires and fix it
onto this tire. Then drive to the nearest
workshop and replace the missing ones,
easy as that"
The driver was very impressed and
asked: "You're so smart but why are you
here in a Mental Hospital?"
The patient replied:
"Hello, I am here because I'm CRAZY,
not STUPID!!
