• The move to Cloud-based computing is accelerating, Gartner predicts revenues will grow almost threefold from US$56.3 billion to $150 billion in 2013…

This is why I think it is real

• Lack of capital available for new projects• Globalisation –  the need for speed and agility• Growth in home and mobile working• Improvements in technology and bandwidth • The need for better control, security and accountability• Success of vendors like Salesforce.com • Threat of ‘over-the-top’ services

What type of applications will be in the Cloud?

CRM, marketing, sales management, AV and hosted e-mail have already gained considerable acceptance particularly with SMEs

Applications such as expense management, procurement, and supply-chain management, e-archiving and discovery, collaboration and Unified Comms are predicted to grow rapidly

Specialist Vertical Industry-specific applications that become the de facto standard 

Note:  Forget Mobile or PC Apps…it’s access all devices

In the Cloud:• Who are the Stakeholders?• What is their motivation for making Cloud-based computing a 

success?• What about compliance and security? • Is integration with existing services practical?• What about adding new SaaS applications in the future?• Can each user be treated as an individual?• How does IT avoid being disenfranchised?• Where and how do Channel Partners fit in?• Is there a Killer Application and if so what is it?

1. Software Developers – offering their own applications as hosted SaaS these include:• Major players e.g. Microsoft and IBM bundling their Apps into 

SaaS delivered direct to customers•  Specialist niche SaaS Developers e.g. for specialist Vertical 

Solutions2.  Cloud Aggregators

• Those already in the Cloud now enabling Apps to be combined with their existing services to add value e.g. Google and Salesforce.com

• Service Providers – Fixed Line Operators, Mobile Operators, Systems Integrators and ISPs seeking to add value to, and protect their existing customer base and revenues

Requirements:• Low cost of entry - reserving capital and cash flow• Ease of sale, delivery, maintenance and support• Minimising additional new resource needs • Integrating with existing operations e.g. OSS/ Billing• Capability to enable their own Channel and control process•  To retain ownership of their Customers
