Paper 1 is in 4 sections:

Paper 1: Exploring Film Friday June 22nd

Paper 1 is worth 50 marks

• You will have 1 hour and 30 minutes to get these 50 marks.

• You will be answering questions on disaster films.

• You will watch a clip from a disaster film and answer questions on it.

• You will analyse a poster or similar.• You will create an idea for a new product.


It will be split into 4 questions:

• Q1: Explain technical elements used in the clip. (10)

• Q2: Explain how parts of the clip were from a disaster film. (10)

• Q3: Study the provided product and explain why it has been designed like it has. (10)

• Q4: Create a new product. (20)


Questions 1 (10) and 2 (10):

• Will always be a response to a clip from a disaster film.

• You don’t have to have seen that disaster film to be able to answer the questions on it.

• You will be able to watch the clip 3 times (we’ll do some work later on how to and what to watch ).

• You could be asked about ANY micro element used in the clip such as sound, camera angle or lighting.


Question 3 (10 marks)

• This question will be a response to something in the exam such as a poster or DVD cover.

• You will be asked to use your knowledge about film and the film industry and then use the ‘thing’ included to help give you an idea of what sort of things you could mention in your answer.



• Your final question will be worth the most amount of marks. • You should spend the most amount of time on this section.

• This section will ask you to create a new product, such as a poster, DVD box set, new film or front cover.

• This will be related to disaster films.

On the exam paper there will be any 4 of these micro features. So make sure you are familiar with each of these 7 micro features.

• Try to avoid writing about the thing in front of you for your answer. Use it as a guide and help.



• Your final question will be worth the most amount of marks. • You should spend the most amount of time on this section.

• This section will ask you to create a new product, such as a poster, DVD box set, new film or front cover.

• Paper 1 is 1 hour and 30 minutes long. • There are 4 questions, worth 50 marks in total.

• Question 1 is worth 10 marks. You will spend 20 minutes on this question.

• Question 2 is worth 10 marks. • Question 3 is worth 10 marks. • Question 4 is worth 20 marks.

How long should you spend on questions 2, 3 and 4?


• Section a:• Worth 2 marks:

• Think of a new disaster film title.

• In pairs, think of as many titles as possible and then work out what they have in common.





• Now that you know what they have in common, can you think of a new film title?



• Section b:• Worth 4 marks. • Think of a new tagline.

• What is the difference between a tagline and a logline?


When creating your tagline, the answers that get the most marks explain why they chose this tagline by comparing it to other taglines.


• Section c:• Worth 10 marks:

• How long do you have to complete this question?

• What can you use to help with this answer?



• Section d:• Worth 4 marks: Suggest a download for your website.

• How long should you have left to complete this question?


When suggesting a download, the answers that get the most marks explain why this download will help to convince people to watch the film.


• Finally, read the answer of someone else on your table.

• Give them marks based purely on how well you think they have done.

• Use the number of marks available from the exam papers.



• Create a poster for a new disaster film. • The film is called Monsoon.• You will need to choose male and female actors for the 2

main roles.• Use the conventions of a film poster to reach those marks.


You have 30 minutes to complete this task.
