Our goals
• 1) providing new grounds as towardssome overall interpretative synthesisof European winter fertility rituals (i.e. “Carnivals”), in the context of the general frameworkof European culture history, through:
• museum research • fieldwork on location • cinematic documentation
• 2) establishing a working network betweensome major European ethnographic Museums, with particular reference to the Alpsand the Balkans, in order to exchange information and activities.
• 3) contributing to a growing awareness as tothe common cultural roots of all European peoples and/or nations, thus establishing some minor, yet not unimportant new landmark as tothe making of a European identity.

Beneficiaries
Various categories of people can be singled out as targets of the benefits of the project. These are in particular:
• local communities where the selected winter rituals are held, which will benefit from being placed in a European network of contacts and relations
• schoolchildren and students who, through the planned educational activities, will gain a new perception of the importance of traditional calendric festivals
• scholars of popular traditions and folklore, who will see again an old concern of theirs under the public eye, as well as under a proper ethno-anthropological frame of reference
