Use darker colors near the center and lighter colors as you move to the ends. STEP 4: Use cotton swabs (or even your fingers!) to blend the colors together. But, pastels would be the only medium other than oil that she turned to regularly over the years. Pastels offered her almost pure pigment and the ability to blur or harden edges. Her fingerprints are often visible in her pastels, indicating that she often pressed the pigment into the paper. MIXED MEDIA In visual art, ‘mixed media’ is an artwork in which more than one type of medium has been used. “Medium” means paint, crayons, clay, or anything from which art can be made. Mixed Media is a term for combining two or more of these materials to create something new.
