What is BMI?Body Mass Index (BMI) is a number calculated from a person's weight and height. BMI is a fairly reliable indicator of body fatness for most people.
How is BMI calculated and interpreted? Calculation of BMI
BMI is calculated the same way for both adults and children. The calculation is based on
the following formulas:
Interpretation of BMI for adultsFor adults 20 years old and older, BMI is interpreted using standard weight status categories that are the same for all ages and for both men and women. For children and teens, on the other hand, the interpretation of BMI is both age- and sex-specific.
The standard weight status categories associated with BMI ranges for adults are shown in the following table.

Dear friends,
The Cultural Program and Souvenir is our platform where our children can express their talents and receive recognition that is a very important part of their development. I humbly request that everyone takes the time and take advantage of being fortunate of having this opportunity.
Once again thank you for your relentless support over the many years. We are delighted that you all attend our functions despite your personal hardships. Your efforts make it worth our while, giving wings to our thoughts and shapes to our dreams to try and create an environment so close and important to our lives. Keep your supports coming and we will come up with the rest.
This souvenir serves as a vehicle for raising funds that helps us considerably in celebrating the Durga Puja. We are therefore grateful to all the advertisers and donors who have contributed financially. As always, the Puja would not be possible without the tireless efforts of the numerous organisers and other active members.
I look forward to the many more fruitful years to follow.

From the President's Desk :
It has been a long journey since 1989. Looking back, I remember the first year when the club had newly formed with lot of efforts and how it has emerged over the years. The club which then had about 35-40 odd families has doubled in number by now. Each function held, never seemed like it had been organized by a club, but rather a family. This is one feeling that never faded nor will ever.
While on one side I miss our old fellow beings whom we have lost during this journey of 22 years; seeing the enthusiasm amongst the younger lot in the club and the recent developments brought about by them, only gives me more joy. An assurance, that the club will scale more heights in times to come. Infact, they have moved a step forward this year and launched our first website.
I welcome you all to this site and to Prabasi Bengali Association, Khopoli and wish you all and your family good health, happiness and prosperity.
May Ma Durga bless us all !
P. K. Roy

Proper Use Of Holidays
Holidays are very much necessary in our life. We work hard during the working days. The normal daily routine of work puts pressure upon our health & mind. We feel tired both physically and mentally. Holidays give us the necessary rest & relief. But we should not waste our time idly. We must use our holidays profitably. We can spend the time reading good books and visiting new places. This will increase our knowledge and experience. We can also pay visits to our friends & relatives. Going to cinema or theatre would refresh our mind. We can devote some time to social service also. We can teach those who are illiterates. Thus holidays should be spent usefully to restore our energy and making us fit for work again with renewed vigour.
Indrani Chatterjee
The Winner of the Human Race
I open my eyes...ah! The joy of a new day,No matter what comes along...my happiness will stay,I take a deep breath...I'm glad I'm alive,The rest of the day is a bonus...no matter how hard I strive.
I'll go for a walk…no matter what weather,I'll walk in the fields...smell the grass and the heather,I know I'm a winner...I see in the right vein,To me all of life...is Joy; a gain and a gain.
My work is just a game I like to play,I love the hunt...the chase...the fray,I welcome the challenge...I'm a smiling gladiator,Impossible to defeat ... a laughing mediator.
When everyone says it can't be done... just get on with it and do it,When things get loose...roll up your sleeves and screw it,When things become old hat...think and new thought to renew it,

The LOKPAL Year
The much discussed and the hottest topic that took the entire nation by storm is a word that even a toddler would mumble without an effort- LOKPAL. And hence, it may not have come as a surprise for the most of you to find its presence here. The revolution that spread like wildfire from Goa to Guwahati, from Kochi to Kashmir engulfed people from all walks of life. From a school child to an old man, from corporate bigwigs, to vegetable vendors, from working professionals to housewives have joined in what has been called the Second Freedom Movement. Anna Hazare came in at a time when each of us has been seething with numerous problems that have been plaguing our country; Corruption being a major one.
thThe awakening finally began in India's 65 year of Independence. Glad. And it began in the easiest form and target- blaming the politicians. Something that we have been doing for the past so many years. The Lokpal movement brought together the largest democracy in the world to chant a single mantra- India Against Corruption. The fight that started with one frail Man, Mr. Anna Hazare was soon joined by the entire nation and proved to be a melting pot for many who shared Anna's sentiments. The fight proved to be beneficial as well as entertaining. While the media channels kept competing for maximum mileage by providing “Breaking News” all along, the opposition was busy gathering up against the ruling, each trying to show their self righteous virtue.Yes we all want an incorrupt society as we have all been facing the curse at different stages in life. But the question is, are the politicians and the system only to be blamed? Aren't we equally responsible for supporting corruption? Today we carry out protests, candle marches, slogans against politicians, citing our anger against them, but look back. Did we think of this scenario while breaking a signal and bribing a traffic cop to get away, while evading our taxes, while paying huge donations for a seat that could have gone to a more deserving, while bribing the peon to cut across the queue and then the officer at the Government office???Rome wasn't built in a day and neither did Corruption gain its magnitude overnight. We fuelled it over the years. The numerous political parties that are playing the blame game over Anna's shoulders, are they trying to say that there would have been a cleaner society had they been in the ruling? If so, what has been stopping them to improve conditions in the society? Where
07
Khopoli Sarbajanin Durgapuja - 2011
have they been, while bad roads were being laid, while riots claimed lives, while rapists roamed scot free, while cities were held to ransom by various strikes, while certain groups went vandalizing the cities on number of occasions, while terrorists even after being proved of their crime, continue to be “alleged” criminal for years? It took us over five decades to wake up from our slumber and at a time when corruption and other crimes have almost eaten up the country and turned it into a jungle, where might is right and only the fit survive. Man has evolved over generations, but somehow the animal within each of us hasn't left us. And hence, we too follow the jungle rule, where the resources are reserved for the mighty and the meek is dominated constantly.Today we all dream of a clean and green nation. A place that we can leave our future generations to be proud of. But the Lokpal bill is not the end or the only solution for curbing crime. It is just one of the steps towards a beginning. If we want the system to change, we need to change. Before we question the integrity of the politicians, we need to do a self-introspect. Are we ready to act tough when asked for a bribe or would we give in to the temptation just because we are in a “HURRY”? There were rules even earlier and there are laws even now, but each time one is created, there are 10 more ways to break them. And no matter how many bills are passed, there is always going to be a smarter lot that will find its way out. The bill is yet another law which will have its effect based on our actions. We say the fight has begun but in reality it hasn't. Cos, the problem lies within us and so does the change. And a thousand Anna Hazares and Lokpal bills will never be able to fix that. Are we ready to pledge against bribe (both giving and taking), against breaking traffic laws, against littering the road, against communalism, against many other evils that surround us? Are we going to continue wrong doings just because everybody else does or are we going to make exceptions? Are we going to be mere followers or are we going to lead the rest? It is much difficult than staging a rally, or carrying candle light marches. Believe me, there is an Anna within each of us. Only we fail to realize that. Try it. Its now or never.
