WITCH: Weak Interaction Trap for Charged particles
Status of the experiment
• First retardation spectrum (of 124In) obtained in Nov. 2006
• Run on 35Ar unveiled some new problems
• Work was done to investigate these issues and perform the necessary upgrades
• Nov 2009; second run on 35Ar which showed that all of the upgrades made were successful; low level ionization prevented us from measuring a clean retardation spectrum
6. Ions are kept in the decay trap for the measurement
7. The DAQ system is allowed to count; retardation power supply and DAQ are synchronized (to have a correspondence between time and retardation voltage)
• Electrode voltages– IKS custom-made (10 channels from -500 to 500V)– ISEG NHQ 234M (2 channels with higher precision – 4kV)– ISEG EHQ F020n (16 channels from 0 to -2kV)– ISEG CPx (separate modules that go to -10kV)
WITCH hardware
• IKS vacuum interlock system• Traps
– IKS Gate & delay generator (2 devices with each 20 channels)– IKS trap supply (32 channels, 4 steps between -15 & 15V)– IKS endcap supply (4 channels, switching between -20 & 450V)
