Configure a XTA WISP for use with DP4Remote & DP4MiniRemote

In difference to older versions (containing the WISER) the actual Walkabout Kit works with a DiGi WISP as serial device server to offer the network bridge from TCP/IP to RS485.

The old Walkabout-Kit could easly accessed with any iPhone, iPod touch or iPad. With the new one this isn´t that easy any more. This manual should give advice how to use your WISP with DP4Remote.

It´s essential to know that the WISP (other than the WISER) is NO WIFI access point – but a WIFI client. That means it joins a existing WIFI network (normally AdHoc mode) and is then accessible to you. Normally the AdHoc network which is joined by the WISP is created with a PC running the utilities provided in the Walkabout Kit. If you want to use the WISP without a PC follow the instructions below.

There are two ways of achieving a connection between your iPhone and your WISP.

- Using a Mac as AdHoc network – see page 2. - Using a WIFI router as access point – see page 11.

Important Note:

This tutorial assumes the factory-settings of the Walkabout-Kit. If you have changed any settings in the WISP this may not work.

Check especially for any changed network names, passwords or IP addresses.

Configure the WISP – Using a MAC as AdHoc network

You can use your Mac running OS X 10.6 or 10.7 for building a AdHoc network which could be joined by any iPhone, iPod touch or iPad and the WISP.

Please note that your Mac will have to run the whole time using your WISP - it´s the bridge between your iPad and the WISP.

What you will need:

- XTA Electronics Walkabout-Kit - Mac running OS X 10.6 or 10.7 - iPhone, iPod touch or iPad running DP4Remote

1. Creating an AdHoc network using your Mac

- Start your Mac and click on the WIFI symbol (right hand side of the menu bar). - Choose „Create Network...“.

- Set „Network Name“ to „XTA WISP“. - Set „Channel“ to „11“. - Set „Security“ to „40-bit WEP“. - Set „Password“ to „1234567890“. - Confirm the password. - Click on „Create“.

- Enter the Mac´s System Preferences (click on the Apple logo on the left hand side of the menu-bar and choose „System Preferences“).

- Choose „Network“. - Click on „Advanced“.

- Choose the „TCP/IP“ tab. - Set „Configure IPv4“ to „Manually“. - Set „IPv4 Address“ to „192.168.224.200“. - Set „Subnet Mask“ to „255.255.0.0“. - Leave the „Router“ blank. - Set „Configure IPv6“ on „Automatically“. - Click on „OK“. - When back on the previous page (see image last page) – click on „Apply“. - Close the System preferences.

3. Checking the connection to the WISP

- Open Safari (or any other internet browser). - Enter the address „192.168.224.226“. - The WISP configuration page should appear.

4. Setting the iPad´s network parameters

The same values can also be used for any iPhone and iPod touch.

- Enter the iPad´s „Settings“. - Choose „WI-FI“. - Ensure the WIFI is turned on. - Choose „XTA WISP“ as network. - Enter the password „1234567890“ (You just need to do that the first time). - The screen should look something like the above. - Tap on the blue arrow right hand of XTA WISP.

- Select the „Static“ tab. - Set „IP Address“ to „192.168.224.201“. - Set „Subnet mask“ to „255.255.0.0“. - Leave all the other settings blank. - Tap on „WI-FI Networks“ to go back to the last screen.

5. Setting the properties in DP4Remote

- Tap on the action symbol in the navigation bar and select „Properties“. - Set „IP“ to „192.168.224.226“. - Set „Port“ to „8002“. - Tap on „Done“ to close the window. - Tap on „offline – remote: 192.168.224.226 @ 8002“ to connect. - A menu should appear which offers you to „Send settings to device“, „Recieve

from network“ or „Just connect“.

If you did everything right you should be connected to your DP-Series processor now and metering should start.

Please note that you´ll have to change some settings in the WISP - this won´t affect it´s normal working behavoir when used with the „normal“ Walkabout-Kit components.

What you will need:

- XTA Electronics Walkabout-Kit - Mac running OS X 10.6 or 10.7 (just for configuration) - A standard WIFI-Router (here shown with a Netgear N150). - iPhone, iPod touch or iPad running DP4Remote

- Open Safari (or any other internet browser). - Enter the address „192.168.224.226“. - The WISP configuration page should appear. - Enter the username „root“. - Enter the password „dbps“. - Click on „Login“.

- Click on „Configuration / Network“. - Change form „Connect to peer-to-peer (ad-hoc) networks only“ to „Connect to

any available wireless network“. - Click on „Apply“. - The network-connection will drop – so might to re-login again (actually we´re

done here – the re-login is just to get sure we have access to the WISP).

4. Setting the Mac´s network parameters (for Router configuration)

This step you´ll just have to do once for configuration.

- Power up your router and wait about 2 minutes until it´s fully started up. - Start your Mac and click on the WIFI symbol (right hand side of the menu bar). - Choose „NETGEAR“.

5. Configure the router (here Netgear N150)

The following Stepps might be named a bit different – depending on the router you use. Also passwords and the address of the configuration page may vary. See your routers documentation for information. The following stepps are for a Netgear N150 router.

- Open Safari (or any other internet browser) and enter the address „www.routerlogin.net“.

- You´ll be promted with a dialog which needs username and password. - Enter „admin“ as username. - Enter „password“ as password. - Click on „Basic Settings“.

- Set „Does your internet connection require a login“ to „No“. - Set „Internet IP Address“ to „Get Dynamically from ISP“. - Set „Domin Name Server (DNS) Address“ to „Get Automatically form ISP“. - Set „Router MAC Address“ to „Use Default Address“. - Click on „Apply“.

- Click on „Wireless Settings“. - Check „Enable SSID Broadcast“. - Set „Name“ to „XTA WISP“. - Set the Region to your local region. - Set „Channel“ to „Auto“. - Select „WEP“ in „Security Options“. - Set „Authentication Type“ to „Automatic“. - Set „Encryption Strengh“ to „64-bit“. - Leave the „Passphrase“ blank. - Set „Key 1“ to „1234567890“. - Click on „Apply“. - The router should restart and you need to connect to the new network „XTA

WISP“ and enter the password „1234567890“.

- Open Safari (or any other internet browser) and enter the address „www.routerlogin.net“.

- You´ll be promted with a dialog which needs username and password. - Enter „admin“ as username. - Enter „password“ as password. - Click on „LAN Setup“. - Change the follwing parameters in the TCP/IP settings: - Set „IP Address“ to „192.168.224.1“. - Set „Subnet Mask“ to „255.255.0.0“. - Select „Both“ as „RIP Direction“. - Select „Disabled“ as „RIP Version“. - Enable „Use Router as DHCP server“. - Set „Starting IP Address“ to „192.168.224.2“. - Set „Ending IP Address“ to „192.168.224.200“. - Click on „Apply“. - The router will restart – this might take a time.

- Re-Login into your router. - Click on „Attached Devices“. - The screen should look simalar to the above picture. - You should find a device (without a name) with the IP address 192.168.224.226

in the list. This is your WISP which has connected to the WIFI router. - Click on „Logout“.

From now on you won´t need your computer any longer.

6. Setting the iPad´s network parameters

The same values can also be used for any iPhone and iPod touch.

- Enter the iPad´s „Settings“. - Choose „WI-FI“. - Ensure the WIFI is turned on. - Choose „XTA WISP“ as network. - Enter the password „1234567890“ (You just need to do that the first time). - The screen should look something like the above. - Tap on the blue arrow right hand from XTA WISP.

- Select the „DHCP“ tab. (This is the standart setting). - Tap on „WI-FI Networks“ to go back to the last screen.
