GIVING BACK!The Meaning of Christmas:This year the courthouse employees learned the meaning of Christmas. Instead of doing our regular “secret Santa” gift exchange, we decided to help out our community. After contacting the school and the VOA, we “adopted” a family from the angel tree. The impact it had on all of us was quite amazing. When we received our lists from our angels, they didn’t include new phones, an X-box or a television. These lists had none of those things. They simply had necessities. We made sure they had their necessities, but threw in some toys and fun stuff for good measure! Because of the overwhelming donations from employees, we had extra money left over to donate to the parents in the form of chamber bucks to ensure they had all they needed to make this holiday special. Smiles were a little brighter than usual around here at this stressful time of year. We’d all get together and chit-chat about the gifts and imagine the smiles we will be bringing. Everyone chipped in, including those who don’t normally participate in our gift exchange. The generosity of the courthouse employees was incredible (the picture only shows a few of the participants, but there were many more). This experience brought all of us a little closer. This is a tradition that will continue with the courthouse, but we’d like to encourage each of you, as a business or as an individual, to join in next year. It really gives you a warm feeling inside to do something for others, especially at Christmas time.
The Lincoln County Departments adopted the Sutherland School District this year and eleven families received totes of gifts donated by county employees, friends, and businesses. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Posse delivered the gifts on December 21st.
